Discover Impactful Work:

The Assoc Lab Suppt Engineer will join our Lab Support team to Provides system analysis of new laboratory instrumentation, as well as maintenance of existing instrumentation. Assists in the validation and qualification of laboratory instrumentation. Troubleshoots and repairs existing laboratory equipment and interacts with vendors and provides repair and maintenance of analytical instrumentation. Supports laboratory personnel in meeting specific sponsor timelines regarding analytical results.

A day in the Life

  • Performs Performance Qualification (PQ) and repair on deployed instrumentation.

  • Coordinates with Operations staff on deployment of instrumentation.

  • Performs unit system testing to include IQ (Installation Qualification), OQ (Operation Qualification) and calibration; Performs validation testing as needed.

  • Assists in developing Standard Operating Procedures and testing procedures for emerging technologies and performance qualification (PQ) regiments for existing technologies.

  • Assists the installation of new instrumentation.

  • Provides basic operator training to end-users on analytical instrumentation.

  • Evaluates lab support records for compliance with SOPs, reviews for completeness and accuracy and reports findings.

Education and Experience

  • Education to Bachelors level Chemical/Pharmaceutical Sciences or similar

  • 5-8 years Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job – Must include hands on experience working on maintenance, calibration and qualification of chromatography instrumentation

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Good understanding of Lab operations and support needed within a lab

  • Working knowledge and understanding of laboratory equipment and foundations of troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, relational databases, and instrumentation operation/data reduction

  • Working knowledge with systems in use at PPD or within the CRO/Pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong understanding of GMP

  • Ability to adhere to laboratory policies and standard operating procedures

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to work without close supervision
