Finance Intern, Summer 2025 - Atlanta, GA
Career Opportunity:
Smurfit Westrock, a publicly traded company with over $20 billion of revenue, is currently seeking Finance Interns to participate in a 10 - 12-week summer internship based at our headquarters in Sandy Springs, GA. Interns will be placed in one of our Corporate Finance areas that reports under the Chief Financial Officer. Focus areas for the internship include financial statement analysis, financial reporting, data analysis, customer profitability analysis, forecasting and budgeting, supply chain analysis, discounted cash flow analysis, strategic modeling and return analysis at both the business segment and corporate level and other special projects. The internship includes travel to field sites, training, social events and a final companywide intern summit with community project and interaction with senior leadership. Upon successful completion of the program, interns may be eligible for our full-time, two-year rotational Finance Leadership Program. What you need to succeed:
Should be pursuing a degree in: business, finance, economics, mathematics or accounting
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA is preferred
Strong interest in corporate finance and leading others in a future career
Relevant experience including internships, co-op assignments and leadership roles
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrate leadership potential, networking skills, participate in social and team building events
Willingness to work in Sandy Springs, GA
Willingness to work in or travel to manufacturing / production environments
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Partner with finance team members to prepare quarterly Board slides and memo; present materials to leadership as appropriate Support the annual budgeting process, provide tracking and insight for projects to aid decisions in operations, maintenance and future spending
Work with the pricing and commercial finance teams to quantify and provide analysis on impact of pricing changes and price realization assumptions across the company
Perform financial modeling and return analysis for strategic projects
Analyze results at the mill, plant, customer, product and region levels and provide insight on variances to budgets and forecast
Perform month end closing and financial reporting activities, participate in physical inventories, review usage trends and participate in income statement and balance sheet reviews to ensure accuracy
Create discounted cash flow analyses for investment decisions in capital expenditures and other strategic investments
Optimize and rationalize reporting and enhance reporting databases to drive consistency in financial practices across the organization
Perform ad-hoc analyses and work with division/segment finance teams to design/produce value-added analysis and reporting for leadership and senior management
Create monthly and quarterly EBITDA bridges to quantify and explain business results; partner cross functionally to improve bridge methodology as needed
Lead projects and support key initiatives as assigned
