Position Summary

The Manager of Student Life is a student centered, consummate professional who can deliver exceptional customer service to all MSM students. The PM for Student Life is an integral part of the core team of the Office of Student Affairs. The Manager of Student Life will lead and manage Student Life operations and activities at MSM . The Manager provides guidance and support to the Student Government Association ( SGA ) and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, implementing, and evaluating Student Life activities, including student interest groups, organizations, and the formation of new organizations. The PM for student life provides administrative support for MSM student activities and academic events such as Winter Formal, Faculty Appreciation Gala, Lampoons, Black History Month, Curtis L. Parker Research Symposium, summer research experiences, Careers in Medicine seminar, Convocation, Match Day, and Commencement.

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

  • Direct and administer along with student leaders co-curricular events that provide a welcoming campus environment and foster close relationships between students in the different disciplines of study.

  • Provides leadership and guidance for student activities, interest groups, organizations, and Town Hall Meetings.

  • Provides leadership for and facilitates meaningful student engagement programs and activities intended to enrich students’ MSM educational and leadership experience and promote community.

  • Ensures opportunities for students to participate in co-curricular student experiences.

  • In concert with the Offices of Counseling Services and Career Connections, and academic programs and divisions, and the Dean of Students, ensures that support structures and networks are present to enhance student success for all MSM students.

  • Work collaboratively with the Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions and Student Affairs’ ( UMEASA ) Program Manager, UME Curriculum Managers, and Curriculum Coordinators, other division/program staff, and Dean of Students’ assistant to ensure all MSM students’ activities are provided staff support.

  • Help organize/support and facilitate student activities, events, meetings.

  • Oversee and manage the SGA accounts; prepare and administer the disbursement of funds; and assist with the preparation and development of SGA and student activities’ budgets.

  • Maintain and update a database of all active student organizations including co-curricular activities and community service.

  • Serve as an administrative back up to Dean of Students’ assistant when they are not available.

  • Help troubleshoot daily, and typical concerns students may experience on campus and triage these concerns to assist with finding solutions or escalating to the appropriate persons who will provide solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with all programs, divisions, and academic leadership to ensure programmatic integration and the creation and maintenance of a supportive and nurturing academic environment for all students.

  • Assist students with MedMart and Concur purchases and travel arrangements.

  • Provide administrative support and guidance to the MSM SGA leadership.

  • Assist with planning and execution of career fairs/residency specialty panels, and other academic collaborations.

  • Collaborate with outside agencies, organizations, and programs to create opportunities for MSM students.

  • Provide leadership/oversight for Envision (formerly, the National Youth Leadership Forum) annual campus visits.

  • Support our pipelines and admissions recruitment efforts and maintain effective, positive working relationships with MSM faculty, staff, and administration

  • Review, maintain, and update the Student Handbook annually

  • Liaison to students for all major school wide events (Convocation, Commencement, Match Day, etc)

  • Work with the Dean of Students to prepare reports on Student Life related topics throughout the year.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of 3-5 years of program administration experience, preferably at an institution of higher learning, and 3 years of managerial experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree

  • Demonstrated track record of excellent work in Student Affairs or at an academic center; Or exceptional customer service ratings in position in industry.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are encouraged to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
