Job Summary We are seeking dedicated and skilled Seasonal Highway Workers to join our team. This role involves keeping our roadways safe and clear during snow and ice events. When not engaged in snow and ice control, you will assist with various highway maintenance and other tasks as needed ensuring the safety and efficiency of roadways.

Responsibilities

• Operate a dump truck equipped with a snow plow attachment to clear county highways during snow and ice events.
• Assist with pothole patching, roadside foliage cutting, and other general maintenance tasks.
• Perform basic labor duties as required.
• Assist with flagging operations,
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while working in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with no air brake restriction.
• Ability to lift 50-100 pounds.
• Complete and pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
• Previous experience with highway plowing and maintenance is a plus, but not mandatory.

Working Conditions

This position involves exposure to various environmental and physical hazards, including but not limited to:

Extreme Weather: Exposure to cold temperatures, snow, ice, wind and other inclement weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of heavy objects (up to 100 lbs. occasionally).
• Prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and sitting.
• Manuel dexterity and coordination of operating equipment.
• Neck mobility for safe operation of dump truck or snowplow.

Safety Hazards:

• Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, vibrations, and potential exposure to chemicals.
• Risk of injury from moving equipment, traffic, and slippery surfaces.
• Potential for eye strain during snow plowing operations.

Physical Requirements:

• Must possess and maintain the physical ability to perform all essential job functions, including those listed above.
• Must be able to work long and irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends and during snow events.

Sensory Requirements:

• Normal vision, including color and depth perception is required for safe equipment operation and situational awareness.
• Adequate hearing is essential for safe operation of equipment and awareness of surrounding traffic.
