Midwest Goods Inc. IT Support Specialist in Bensenville, Illinois

Location : Bensenville, IL

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Status: Full Time (Exempt)

Compensation: $75,000

Overview:

The IT Support Specialist at Midwest Distribution is responsible for providing advanced technical support and ensuring the efficient operation of IT systems across the Bensenville office and warehouse, as well as other Midwest Distribution locations, including Overseas Office. This role involves troubleshooting complex hardware, software, and network issues, assisting with IT projects, and providing on-site support as needed. The position requires travel to other Midwest Distribution locations, maintaining a regular schedule from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with an expectation of afterhours availability to address urgent IT issues. The IT Support Specialist reports to the IT Administrator Supervisor.

  • Advanced Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide expert-level technical support for hardware, software, and network-related issues to staff across all Midwest Distribution locations.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems in a timely manner to minimize operational disruptions.

  • Manage and track support requests using helpdesk software, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication with end-users.

  • Hardware and Software Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain advanced computer systems, servers, and network devices, ensuring they operate efficiently.

  • Assist with the deployment and management of specialized software applications, ensuring that all systems are up-to-date and secure.

  • Support the procurement, setup, and management of IT assets, including computers, peripherals, and software licenses.

  • Network Support and Optimization:

  • Assist in the monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks across all locations.

  • Provide support for complex network connectivity issues, ensuring reliable access to network resources for all users.

  • Work closely with the IT Administrator Supervisor to implement and maintain network security measures, such as firewalls and access controls.

  • User Training and Advanced Support:

  • Provide technical training and advanced support to end-users, helping them effectively utilize IT systems and applications.

  • Create and maintain detailed user guides, FAQs, and other documentation to assist users in resolving complex issues independently.

  • Assist with onboarding new employees by setting up their IT accounts and providing initial training on the organization's IT systems.

  • System Monitoring and Preventative Maintenance:

  • Monitor the performance of IT systems and infrastructure to ensure they are running smoothly and efficiently.

  • Perform routine and advanced maintenance, such as applying critical software updates and patches, to keep systems secure and operational.

  • Assist in the implementation of backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.

  • Project Support and Implementation:

  • Assist with IT projects, including system upgrades, new technology deployments, and office relocations.

  • Work closely with the IT Administrator Supervisor and other IT staff to ensure successful implementation of IT initiatives.

  • Provide on-site support during project rollouts, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Travel and On-Site Advanced Support:

  • Travel to other Midwest Distribution locations or vape trade shows, to provide on-site technical support as needed.

  • Offer on-site assistance during critical phases of IT projects or when addressing significant IT challenges.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of IT systems, configurations, and support activities.

  • Provide regular reports to the IT Administrator Supervisor on the status of IT support activities and any ongoing issues.

  • Document all technical issues and resolutions for future reference and continuous improvement.

    Competencies:

  • Proficient in Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.

  • Familiarity with advanced software applications and troubleshooting methods.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to IT support.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively assist and train users.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Reporting Structure

    The IT Support Specialist reports directly to the IT Administrator Supervisor

    Work Environment

  • The IT Support Specialist will work primarily at the Bensenville office and warehouse, with travel required to other Midwest Distribution locations and vape trade shows.

  • This role requires after-hours support and on-call responsibilities to address urgent IT issues.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with 24/7 readiness to troubleshoot and resolve critical IT issues, with on-call responsibilities as needed.

    Travel

    Required travel to other Midwest Distribution locations, including vape trade shows to support IT operations.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.

  • 3+ years of experience in IT support or a related technical role, with a strong background in troubleshooting and problem-solving.

  • Experience working in a multi-site environment is preferred.

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) are highly desirable.

    Work Authorization
