Summary:
The Emergency Nursing Supervisor, under the leadership of the Nurse Manger, shares the responsibility for the planning, priority setting, coordination and evaluation of programs designated for the patient population. Abiding by Sisters Hospital Mission and Values, the ED Supervisor collaborates/supports the Nurse Manager with 24- hour accountability and responsibility for the human resource and outcome management/performance, shared Governance model, Unit Practice Councils, and with implementing initiatives and processes that focus on staff recruitment and retention and staff engagement.
The Stroke Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of stroke patient coordination at PSC (Primary Stroke Center) site. The Stroke Coordinator works in collaboration with the Neuroscience Service Line, Medical Director of Stroke and Nursing Administration to develop facility Stroke Program in conjunction with system initiatives. The Stroke Coordinator provides leadership to the facility's stroke program and facilitates the bedside clinical care of Stroke/TIA, and other complex cerebrovascular patients to assure that all patients receive comprehensive and timely treatment interventions that are consistent with evidence based care as defined by Clinical Practice Guidelines. Assists in furthering clinical standardization goals through participation in multi-disciplinary teams to develop order sets, standing orders and care algorithms. The Stroke Coordinator provides formal and informal education to staff and community related to cerebrovascular-specific topics, and acts as a resource for staff, physicians, and community to support Stroke program goals. The Stroke Coordinator position facilitates stroke system of care, collaborating with all CHS sites, nursing and physician leadership and Education to develop and facilitate educational programs to enhance the staff's knowledge of current trends in stroke care.
Responsibilities:
Educational Requirements
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
Baccalaureate in Nursing required or must be actively enrolled in BSN program with completion within three (3) years of assignment
Current RN licensure in the State of New York
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS and PALS certification or completion of course within six (6) months of assignment.
National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 90 days of position assignment, maintained per organization policy thereafter.
Modified Rankin training within 90 days of the position assignment, maintained annually thereafter.
Eight (8) hours of stroke education within 90 days of position assignment, maintained annually thereafter.
Experience Requirements
Two (2) years of acute care nursing
Charge nurse, managerial, or supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional and clerical employees.
Possesses active listening skills.
Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals.
Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problem resolution.
Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff.
Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit(s) and /or area(s) of responsibility and to identify and explain variances.
Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates it to hospital and work area environment.
