Posting Summary
The Instructional Design and Technology Specialist (IDTS) reports to the Director of Instructional Design & Technology (IDT), within the Provost's office at Rutgers University-Camden. This individual provides Rutgers-Camden faculty support to improve the design, development, implementation, and analysis of student-focused, outcomes-based curriculum and instruction for online, remote, on-campus, and hybrid courses. With specialized knowledge of pedagogical theory and instructional technology as applied in complex environments for diverse audiences, the Instructional Design and Technology Specialist serves as a primary point of contact for Rutgers-Camden instructors. This individual provides support for Rutgers' course management system, Canvas, and related technologies.
Responsibilities include the development and delivery of training opportunities for full- and part-time faculty, and/or teaching assistants; the creation and maintenance of faculty support resources; the ongoing support of faculty in selecting and utilizing appropriate instructional software; and the design and development of course structures and materials. The Instructional Design and Technology Specialist assists with research and assessment of current programs and student learning outcomes, participates in departmental strategic planning, and pursues continuous professional growth. The IDTS also collaborates regularly with instructional design, information technology, and pedagogical colleagues across the Camden campus and the broader Rutgers system. Other duties may include serving on campus and university committees, coordinating student workers, and related duties as required.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience along with proficiency in instructional and learning theories and their application, plus at least two years of experience supporting the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience along with proficiency in instructional and learning theories and their application, plus at least two years of experience supporting the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching. Must have experience teaching or training, preferably in higher education settings, and knowledge of current technologies for instruction. Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs.
Must have the ability to design and lead faculty workshops; assess technology and software programs for instructional and other purposes; identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes; effectively demonstrate instructional applications of technologies; effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience; and establish cooperative working relationships. Must be able to manage projects from start to completion and juggle multiple projects at different phases of completion. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to work flexibly and patiently with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in a variety of learning environments are critical requirements of the position.
Requires demonstrated experience with technologies including course management systems, office productivity suites, multimedia production software, web design, content management systems, social media, and varied hardware platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree preferred. College-level teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated experience with the course management system Canvas, plus proven ability to produce multimedia projects and websites. Familiarity with web conferencing, videoconferencing, lecture capture systems, WordPress or other content management systems, modern HTML, CSS, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning. Certification in Quality Matters preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Must be adept with personal computers running Mac or Windows operating systems, plus mobile computing devices. Must be familiar with the following software (or equivalent):
  • Canvas LMS
  • Other instructional technologies - VoiceThread, Hypothesis, PlayPosit, etc
  • Lecture Capture and Screencasting Software - Kaltura, Camtasia, etc.
  • Web Design and Production - WordPress, HTML & CSS
  • Video Production - webcams, digital video cameras, and other capture devices, video editing software such as iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Web conferencing systems - Zoom, Big Blue Button, etc.
  • Microsoft Office software - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams
  • Mac iWork software - Pages, Keynote, Numbers
  • Cloud-based productivity tools - Google Docs, Microsoft Office 365
  • Content Creation suites - Canva, Adobe Express, etc.
  • Artificial Intelligence tools - ChatGPT, Claude AI, Google Gemini, Microsoft CoPilot, Notebook LM, etc.
  • Desktop computers - both PC and Mac proficiency, plus tablets, smartphones and other devices
  • Ability to learn emerging technologies quickly and effectively

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to move around campus and operate computers and classroom technology.
