El Paso County Facilities Maintenance Technician I/II in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Hiring Range: Facilities Maintenance Technician I: $42,000 - $45,000 annually. Facilities Maintenance Technician II: $47,000 - $55,400 annually. (salary to be commensurate with qualifications).

Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm OR Tuesday-Friday, 6:30am - 5:00pm. Will serve as on-call representative for after-hour response on a rotational basis and weather-related occurrences. Schedule is subject to change

This position is responsible for maintaining the function and appearance of El Paso County buildings and equipment by performing basic building maintenance tasks in a variety of areas, including carpentry, painting, and electrical. Performs all phases of painting from surface preparation to finished product. Specializes in wall repair, remodeling, repainting, staining, tile work, and new construction projects. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Assists in hanging doors and installing related hardware fixtures. Assists in replacement of broken glass/windows; replaces ceiling tiles; repairs paneling; patches, repairs, and paints surfaces. Patches, assists in replacing, and/or installs floor tile and carpet. Repairs and replaces light bulbs, florescent tubes, and identifies bad ballasts and reports to supervisors; checks emergency, parking, and security li Assists in repairs and replacing basic plumbing items, including spigots and traps. Unplugs toilets/sewer lines and repairs leaking faucets and minor pipe leaks. Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures such as faucets, sinks, and toilets. Conducts regular building inspections and equipment checks to identify needs and ensure equipment is operating per established guidelines. Performs repairs as possible or reports issues to dispatch or appropriate staff for corrective action. Assists with new and/or remodeling/alteration projects and minor construction work. Repairs, installs, and constructs tables, shelves, cabinets, countertops, and other fixtures. Responds to calls related to building/office temperature; validates condition of environment and coordinates corrective actions with the mechanical team as needed. Provides assistance in moving furniture and other materials as needed. Escorts or assists contractors or other personnel through buildings to accomplish facility maintenance or projects as required. Documents work completed on work order sheet. Assists in snow removal and other weather-related duties as assigned. Performs other duties as required. Maintenance Technician II: Maintains and repairs County buildings, grounds, and equipment; performs work in areas including carpentry, HVAC, painting, plumbing, electrical maintenance, and other related crafts. Performs architectural work. Frames walls and partitions, installs new or repairs existing suspended ceilings, patches and repairs roofs, and installs or repairs drywall, doorframes/doors, and door hardware. Installs plumbing fixtures, repairs/ and related components. Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and maintains electrical wiring, fuses, switches, motors, lighting systems, and other fixtures/equipment. Maintains and repairs building locks, doors, gates, and overhead doors. Performs painting, staining, wallpapering, and ceramic tiling. Uses equipment such as sprayers, power tools, paint brushes, rollers, and tile cutters. Prepares surfaces for material application, including cleaning, priming, scraping, caulking, striping, patching holes, and texturing. Applies coatings such as paint, varnish, and oils to int rior and exterior surfaces. Performs graffiti removal and surface restorati Maintains cleanliness of equipment and a safe and orderly work area. Analyzes surface to be upgraded; determines the materials and time needed to complete the job. Develops project scope of work, coordinates the job, orders materials, creates/maintains work orders, and closes out the project. Assists foreman in scheduling work orders, pulling appropriate permits, completing paperwork and modifying blueprints to reflect modifications. Assists in evaluating and prioritizing needs within all County buildings. Assists in moving furniture as needed. Serves on-call as required to support all County buildings, including correctional facilities. Responds to on-call/emergency situations as required.
