Oracle Principal Database Modeler & Engineer in Columbus, Ohio

Job Description

Oracle is currently seeking an experienced Database Modeler & Engineer to assist in building our next generation SaaS insurance software platform. We are developing and integrating new and existing cloud-based software products for the Oracle cloud platform. The applications are web-based multi-component multi-tiered multi-service micro-service client-server Insurance applications.

This position is for an experienced database modeler who can also engineer the database schemas and scripts. Expertise and experience designing Oracle Database models and developing the associated creation, migration, and update scripts including related queries, is required. The candidate should be familiar with database compression, partitioning, and archival. A person well versed in modeling efficient persistence and retrieval for structured and unstructured big data is a major plus. Ideally, the candidate will have experience working with the Oracle Autonomous Database.

This person will work within the Development team. The role will require you to troubleshoot and investigate data anomalies and issues along with working directly with developers to follow through and get issues fixed.

This individual should be highly organized, self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently, as well as work with project managers and peers to understand requirements, document designs, and build and unit test software components.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain database models to support application data storage needs.

  • Verify, test, and help find resolutions to issues reported by customers and internally.

  • Write clear, concise and thorough design documents

  • Contribute to the resolution of defects and enhancement requests

  • Deliver on other work related responsibilities as assigned by management

Required Skills:

  • 8 years of database modeling and data management experience

  • 8 years experience with database development using Oracle database

  • Experience in creating and maintaining database objects such as tables, indexes, views, synonyms, complex object types and collections

  • Extract, transform, and load data using custom scripts

  • Program in PL/SQL and/or PL/Python, Java

  • Tune SQL queries for better performance

  • Build database validation scripts to be used with CI/CD pipeline

  • Diagnose/debug faults in complex services or distributed systems

  • Data formats: XML, JSON, CSV, Excel

  • Tools: SQL Developer, Liquibase

  • Strong grasp of software development fundamentals for scalable and maintainable code

  • Experience working on Windows and Linux OSs

  • Experience following agile software development methodologies and life cycles

  • Highly-motivated, high energy individual with a strong commitment to quality

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Oracle Autonomous Database

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java database access layer application libraries to perform CRUD functions against the database.

  • Insurance Industry related experience is a plus

Minimum Experience:

  • 5+ Years experience with required skill set described above

Minimum Education:

  • 4-Year degree in Computer Science or similarly disciplined field and experience

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
