Job Description

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (PENS) of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track Instructor of Physics. The candidates will be expected to teach; 1) undergraduate in classrooms and laboratories for Foundational Approaches to the Physical Sciences, a required physics education course in the classroom and related laboratories for students in education programs in College of Science, College of Liberal Arts, and College of Education; 2) freshman through senior astronomy education in the classroom and the telescope related laboratories for students in the College of Science; and 3) contribute to the development of new opportunities for our undergraduate students. The preferred start date for this position is mid Spring 2025.

Department

The Physics Program is part of PENS which is a broad an interdisciplinary department. The PENS department offers undergraduate degrees in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Atmospheric Science, and Physics. The PENS department also offers master’s degrees in chemistry, Environmental Science, Coastal and Marine System Science. In addition, the department also offers a PhD in Coastal and Marine System Science.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate’s degree in Physics or Secondary Education.

  • 4-year experience teaching in Physics and/or Astronomy.

  • Broad experience in physics laboratories, especially in developing courses for primary and secondary school teachers.

  • Experience in observational astronomy and in the workings of an astronomical observatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of telescope designs, including refractors, Newtonian reflectors, and Cassegrain-style reflectors.
