Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist III to join our team in Cottonwood. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. You will collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
Update patient information and ensure accuracy in documentation.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperatures.
Follow protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to address questions.
Essential Skills
Phlebotomy certification valid in the state of employment.
Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
5-7 years of experience in a related role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with troubleshooting and training in a phlebotomy setting.
Ability to make workflow recommendations.
Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. It involves interacting with patients and medical staff and requires adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines. The position may involve handling biohazard materials and requires following specific protocols to ensure the integrity and safe transport of specimens. Hours M-F 7a-4p
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.59/hr.
