Job Overview: Prepares preschool aged children and their families for Kindergarten success by preparing and implementing curriculum activities; conducting screening and assessments, maintaining routine and structure; and ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Promotes the school readiness and healthy growth and development of preschool children by planning activities and implementing curriculum to fidelity; conducting screening and assessments; and individualizing services and instruction to meet the needs of each enrolled child and family.
Establishes and maintains a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment by interacting with children in a manner that is nurturing and response to their needs; by preparing clean, safe, and age-appropriate materials, equipment and physical space for the daily plan; and by providing support and guidance to volunteers and staff in the classroom.
Establishes and maintains consistent routine, structure, and safety in the classroom using appropriate behavior management, active supervision, and zoning strategies and implementing quality transitions activities.
Supports parents as the primary educators of their children by engaging with parents as partners in their childs education through regular communication and completion of parent conferences and home visits. Provides education, support, volunteer opportunities. and encourages parent and community support through donated goods and services (inkind).
Organizes and documents each child and familys individual program planning and services delivery by maintaining up-to-date and accurate records in all service areas.
Ensures program compliance by understanding and complying with federal, state, and local regulations.
Assists parents with accessing evaluation and special services for children with suspected delays by coordinating CPSE/EI referrals; providing advocacy and education; contributing to composition of specialized plans; and implementing recommendations.
Maintains and implements professional and technical knowledge by attending training, establishing professional networks, and documenting training attendance.
Promotes a positive agency image and credibility by adhering to our code of conduct.
Assures effective risk management practices by identifying and reporting potential safety, ethical, and legal concerns.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing program goals and completing other duties as assigned.
Ability to travel within NYS and occasional out of state travel.
Qualifications: EDUCATION: An associates, bachelors or advanced degree in child development or early childhood education -or- An associates, bachelors, or advanced degree in a related field with 18 credit hours in coursework related to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool children. -or- A bachelors degree and has been admitted into the Teach For America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach For America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach For America's professional staff. License Requirements: Current, valid drivers license and clean driving record. EXPERIENCE: Six months experience teaching preschool children required for related degree. Must demonstrate competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote childrens developmental progress, including children with disabilities and dual language learners.
