The Opportunity

Our location in Des Plaines, IL currently has an opportunity for a Scientist - Technical Support . The Scientist – Technical Support will lead and consult on multiple complex projects defined for expanded investigations, design changes, resolving on-market product problems and resolving technical issues to increase product availability. They will also manage design change and lead an adequate CFT with the required product/process knowledge to assess impact and develop plan. This role will perform or support test/process method modifications, recognize adverse trends/emerging issues, and propose/implement solutions.

What You’ll Work On

  • Conducts research under the guidance of a research scientist, project coordinator, or manager.

  • Directs own daily activities utilizing multiple experimental techniques and incorporates appropriate procedures.

  • Correlates and verifies ideas through experimentation.

  • Interacts with other groups and shares information; participates in team activities.

Accountabilities:

  • Project Management - Manage product and process improvements independently using established principles and procedures.

  • Product and Process Improvement - Monitor performance of multiple manufacturing processes and products differing in nature but with recurring themes to recognize adverse trends and instigate improvement programs as required.

  • Proactively contribute to design control, process and product improvement activities, and investigations.

  • May perform or support test and process method modifications.

  • Recognize adverse trends and emerging issues.

  • Propose and implement solutions to internal and external issues.

  • Design Control and Risk Management - By standard practice (Operating Procedures) independently develops and maintains risk management files and organizes data for risk management evaluation and decisions.

  • Complaint and Internal Investigations - Manage investigations, identify root cause and drive to resolution with minimal supervision.

  • Provides audit inputs and support as required.

  • Technical Support - Develop and design experiments, analyze data and recommend next steps.

  • Sharing Knowledge - Presents technical information to management and may present externally to customers and Third-Party Manufacturers (TPM). Shares knowledge and expertise with others in work group.

  • Mentors or teaches others to facilitate timely resolution of product and process technical issues.

  • Strategic and Results Orientation - Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through support of product availability and improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a scientific / technical discipline

  • 6 years’ experience in a related scientific / technical field. Advanced degree(s) may offset required years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred experience with Fluorescence in situ hybridization and/or Alinity m platform.

  • Experience with computer and data management.

  • Understanding change control impact on design / validation of products and/or processes. Previous experience with multiple immunoassay families (disease states), technologies, clinical utilities and Abbott systems.

  • Experience working in project teams for basic projects or a single complex project. Experience with change control and/or investigation processes and/or laboratory skills.

  • Experience with acquiring, analyzing and interpreting data from a variety of sources. Experience with technical problem prevention / resolution.

  • Experience with leading project teams and/or mentoring / teaching others. Knowledge of experimental design and/or statistical tools and/or project management tools.

  • Experience in operations (manufacturing/quality).

  • Demonstrated ability to apply operations knowledge in timely resolution of product / process technical issues.

  • Experience interacting with customers to resolves issues.

  • Experience with application of six sigma tools for root cause identification.

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
