Description

The City of Detroit is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sustainable Mobility Project Manager to join the Office of Mobility and Innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and construction of infrastructure projects to support the city's sustainability and clean energy goals related to electrification, and low and zero emissions vehicles.

Examples of Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop and manage EV infrastructure project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring alignment with local policies and sustainability goals. Prepare activity logs and reports to monitor construction projects. Approve cost estimates, contractor notices, change orders, and invoices. Monitor and estimate costs to ensure projects stay within budget.

  • Construction Management: Analyzes accepted construction contracts to ensure conformance to construction specifications and cost and negotiates revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, or subcontractors.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor project progress, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed reports for senior management and stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, community groups, and private sector partners. Conduct public outreach and education initiatives to promote EV adoption and inform the community.

  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards. Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets for EV infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with local government policies and sustainability goals. Assist in any way needed to ensure permitting and completion of all construction; and the coordination of all work with internal departments and agencies necessary to successfully complete these projects (Municipal Parking Department, BSEED, Business Liaisons, PDD, etc);

  • Technical Expertise: Manage the development of technical guidance on EV infrastructure, including charging stations and grid integration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Business, Urban Planning, or other related fields. A master’s degree is a plus. Up to the discretion of the City, in some cases, direct specialized experience and an associate degree may be accepted in place of a bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably in mobility, transportation, infrastructure, or sustainability projects. Experience with data analysis and visualization preferred.

  • Skills: Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in project management software and tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of construction management and permitting processes. Commitment to sustainability and environmental justice.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of EV technology, infrastructure requirements, construction oversight and tracking, and regulatory landscape. Familiarity with local government operations and public sector project management.

  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is preferred, LEED GA or WELL; AICP or AICP Candidate

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
