Major Responsibilities
-Charge Strippers (80%)
- Support FRIB operations by maintaining liquid lithium and carbon charge strippers to ensure an operational state.
- Provide technical support on the charge strippers during FRIB operations
- Lead implementation of improvements of the charge strippers. This includes conceptual designs of improvements, R&Ds, support of detailed designs, and validations. Improvements are, but are not limited to,
- Liquid lithium charge stripper
- Producing a thicker and more uniform liquid lithium film;
- Minimizing the splashing of liquid lithium in the vacuum chamber.
- The scope of improvements includes the subsystems of the strippers (e.g. vacuum and/or argon subsystems of the liquid lithium charge stripper)
- Carbon foil charge stripper
- Exploring carbon foils that have longer lifetimes than the one currently in operation, which includes necessary R&Ds
- Liquid lithium charge stripper
- Conduct scientific research that could break through the current technical limitations of the charge strippers. This also includes contributions to understanding the physics behind charge exchange between beams and charge-stripping media
-Target and Beam Dump (15%)
