JOB SUMMARY The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of all property and production assets in a safe, sanitary and efficient condition. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for staying up to date on new products, equipment, technology and techniques. This includes total preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance of building/facilities, equipment and machinery managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform all work in accordance with company policies and procedures, OSHA/EPA requirements and regulations. Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements (both planned and unplanned), on production, packaging, processing equipment, and utility systems.
Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment; understand and comply with workplace safety regulations.
Inspect machines regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual inspections, listening for irregular noises and conducting scheduled testing as appropriate.
Monitor, identify and respond promptly to signs of malfunction in machinery such as changes in performance, temperature fluctuations, sounds, smells or atypical energy usage; perform troubleshooting for production machinery.
Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance and service for each piece of equipment.
Perform emergency repairs on various types of machinery, including mechanical, electric and hydraulic; identify and replace worn or damaged parts in a timely manner.
Inspects, services, calibrates, and maintains sophisticated equipment, programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, electrical systems, telemetering devices, monitoring instruments, and control instrumentation.
Use a variety of power and hand tools to perform job functions.
Read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification or installation of machinery.
Work effectively with other team members in a loud environment. Work safely following all company safety policies, practices, procedures and improvement initiatives; Comply with all regulatory compliance requirements regarding environmental, and food/feed safety Servicing and maintaining equipment including motors, conveyor systems, transmission systems, and production-related equipment.
Operating vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment - Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, boom lifts, pallet jacks or other industrial trucks. Readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service Complete work orders in a timely manner maintaining high quality standards Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties Maintain communication with other departments, management and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production. Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format, and completed with required information. Work with the engineering staff and outside vendors regarding equipment installation, upgrades, and parts. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOPs. Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low supply levels to Supervisor Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes. Comply with all required work safe practices. This would include lockout-tagout requirements and wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc. Report any safety and/or quality rela ed issues to management immediately. Troubleshoot common issues with equipment and assist operators with getting back to a productive mode.
Repair machines in order to limit machinery downtime during the production schedules. Complete a variety of tasks related to maintenance of machinery and facility, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural concerns and more depending on the scope of the project. Maintain a 5S compliant work area while completing tasks related to maintenance, repair or installation.
Determines serviceability of parts and components by inspecting used parts; using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Fabricate simple repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. ? Perform other duties as required.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS 2+ years of maintenance experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics and basic electrical repair preferred. Ability to troubleshoot and repair CNC machines (electrical/mechanical)- Preferred Knowledge of robotics, robotic controls, and vision systems- Preferred ? Associates degree in mechanical, electrical or engineering specialties or equivalent work experience preferred. High school degree required or GED equivalent. Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations. Working knowledge of technical areas: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotics equipment and PLC. 1-year minimum experience on a variety of equipment including lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control and packaging equipment. Functional knowledge of metal fabrication and equipment preferred. (900 and Global Partitions specific) Functional knowledge of plastics extrusion preferred. (GEM Plastics specific)
Candidate should be highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams. Intermediate MS Office suite. Working knowledge of preventive maintenance program/s required. Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems and independently take appropriate corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment down time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English required. Ability to read and understand equipment operation manuals, Safety Data Sheets, and other literature as required. Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines in an empowerment culture. Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change. Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred. ? Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts. Strong critical thinking/problem solving and troubleshooting skills required. Intermediate mathematics skills required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions. A self-starter, motivated and able to positively motivate others.
Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Punctual attendance to work is required. This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling or pushing. Ability to distinguish color. Good hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are considered essential. A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands and/or feet may also be required. Moderate to steady lifting of up to 50lbs. required. Requires wearing personal protective equipment. Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, dust, dirt and chemicals. Requires working indoors
