Job Title: Lab Technician – Process Development AssistantJob Description
We’re seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our dynamic Process Development team. As a Lab Technician, you will support essential kilo lab operations, assisting with the production and scale-up of small molecules. The primary purpose of this position will be to support daily lab operations and to manage lab equipment and cleanliness of the facility. This role is perfect for those looking to gain foundational experience in material preparation, compound purification, and maintaining lab standards.
Responsibilities
Assist in the execution of all production processes (TAFEA and EGT) consistent with PBRs.
Perform chemical reactions, rotary evaporative distillation, extraction, filtration, filter chromatography, crystallization, distillation, resin column, resin preparation, and sampling.
Measure and weigh various chemical materials and solvents (some hazardous) and assist in inventory control.
Prepare, clean, and breakdown all required process equipment and areas, maintaining all relevant documents and logbooks.
Operate Buchi/AGI evaporators, vacuum pumps, extractors, reactors, chillers, and Nutsche filters.
Run lab (wet chemistry) experiments for process chemists as required.
Maintain experimental records and laboratory notebooks.
Prepare and run samples and standards by HPLC as directed by the analytical supervisor.
Research market opportunities and pricing.
Conduct process development research under the oversight of a manager.
Fill and pump solvents/chemicals for R&D Lab and other production processes as needed.
Source and submit order requests for facility equipment and repair/replacement equipment parts.
Perform routine and ad hoc maintenance on facility, production, and analytical equipment.
Receive, inventory, and quarantine incoming chemicals and solvents.
Assist in maintenance of batch record tracking log and review completed batch records for errors/deviations.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in Chemistry or a related field preferred.
Good communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office.
Basic understanding of wet chemistry and analytical techniques (NMR, HPLC, UV, LC/MS).
Attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Basic familiarity with EHS and chemical hygiene best practices.
Physical ability to move 55-gallon drums weighing 200-600 lbs by hand and with a drum hand truck.
Ability to move 4x 55-gallon drums using pallet and pallet jacks.
Experience with analytical chemistry, HPLC, formulation, GC-MS, UV-Vis, FTIR.
Basic math skills.
Work Environment
The work environment includes a 10-person worksite within a large facility/lab space located in Fairfield, NJ. The facility spans 22,000 square feet and includes research and analytical labs. The kilo-labs consist of 3 suites equipped with 20/50/100L reactors/extractors, prep-chromatography systems, Biotage flash systems, hydrogenators (300mL-20L), and 5/20/50L rotoevaporators. The team offers flexible hours and management, with a strong focus on training and long-term development. The role provides the opportunity to work on cosmetics for well-known brands, contributing to stable revenue and innovative product launches.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
