City of Fife Assistant Day Camp Director in Fife, Washington
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Director, the Assistant Camp Director supports the mission of Camp Fife by assisting in all aspects of camp operations, including planning, delivery of programs, staff training, and day-to-day logistics. While supporting the entire camp, the Assistant Camp Director's primary focus is on leading the Voyagers (ages 10-12), ensuring activities and supervision meet the needs of this age group. This role leads staff and campers to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-organized experience for all participants and their families. A mandatory week-long training must be completed before the camp season begins. This position requires flexibility, as hours are typically 40 hours per week but may vary depending on program needs. Camp Fife operates Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Position duration: June 2 -- September 5, 2025 This position reports directly to the Recreation Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist the Camp Director with planning, administration, and logistics before, during, and after each camp session.
- Lead and supervise activities, ensuring safety, engagement, and alignment with camp goals.
- Oversee, train, and mentor Camp Counselors, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and the Camp Director to ensure smooth operations.
- Prepare documents, including program evaluation forms, accident reports, daily logs, and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable City, County, and State laws, as well as City ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Drive a 15-passenger shuttle-style van for field trips or transportation, as required.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or behavioral challenges, utilizing problem-solving and conflict-resolution strategies.
- Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties as needed.
- Open and close camp facilities, ensuring security and readiness.
Perform other duties as assigned to support camp operations.

- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
- At least one year of experience working in recreation, education, or childcare with youth ages 6-12.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or the ability to obtain during training).
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Washington State Driver's License with good driving record.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.

Physical Abilities:
- Ability to carry up to 40 pounds.
- Bending, kneeling, and crouching to assist campers and staff.

- Visual ability to monitor staff and campers for safety.
