Role: VP Digital Transformation

Functional Area: Integrated Supply Chain (ISC)

Preferred Locations: US: Franklin Lakes, NJ (HQ); Sparks, MD; Covington, GA; Warwick, RI;

Preferred Location in Europe: Eysins (Canton Vaud), Switzerland

Hybrid role: 4 days a week in office (when not traveling for business)

Reporting: This VP role will report to the SVP, ISC Strategy & Transformation Philippe Domenge who is a direct report into BD’s EVP, Chief ISC Officer, David Shan. This role will lead a team of approximately 30 people (with 7 directs).

Job Summary : The VP, Digital Transformation is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to leverage digital technologies and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) processes to enhance overall business performance, drive innovation and create a digitally enabled, connected shopfloor.

This key strategic role involves collaborating with business and manufacturing site leaders, cross-functional teams, and understanding business objectives to lead initiatives that enable the organization to adapt to the evolving digital landscape. The role also includes enabling manufacturing processes optimization, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and ensuring data platforms are available to be leveraged for informed decision-making.

Responsibilities :

Strategy Development and Implementation :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital transformation and 4IR technology strategy aligned with organizational goals.

  • Create and execute a strategic roadmap for the adoption of 4IR technologies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Integrate the sustainability roadmap into programs focused on energy and water reduction and develop smart building solutions.

Technology Integration and Deployment :

  • Evaluate, recommend, and oversee the implementation and ongoing evolution of digital tools, platforms, and technologies.

  • Define the governance and operating model for the rapid deployment of digital tools, including, but not limited to, the AVEVA System Platform, Apriso Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Tulip and eDHR.

  • Lead the deployment of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and establish a roadmap for the expanded use of the platform, leveraging AI or machine learning.

  • Integrate digital twin technology to simulate and optimize manufacturing and end to end supply chain processes.

  • Develop and implement technologies in lighthouse plants, including but not limited to cobots, robots, drones, augmented reality, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)….

  • Ensure the seamless integration of advanced technologies such as IoT, AI, machine learning, block chain, robotics, and advanced analytics to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and quality.

  • Ensure the resilience and security of the deployed digital solutions through robust cybersecurity measures.

Process Optimization and Efficiency :

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains through digital technologies and 4IR solutions.

  • Implement predictive maintenance strategies and Operational Technology (OT) to drive efficiencies.

  • Foster the development of connected factory associates to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Ensure process ownership and governance is established for all deployed enterprise solutions

  • Utilize performance metrics and KPIs to measure user adoption and the success of digital transformation initiatives.

Data Analytics and Reporting :

  • Define and Implement an Enterprise Manufacturing data Market Place strategy so that data can be leveraged to inform decision-making, track progress, and provide detailed reports / presentations for stakeholders.

  • Establish Governance and operating model for Manufacturing data analytics capability, ensuring that the right data visualization tools are available to drive performance improvements.

  • Define strategy on how artificial intelligence can be integrated into analytics to enhance decision-making.

Leadership and Collaboration :

  • Lead cross-functional teams, collaborate with various departments, and secure executive leadership buy-in for digital initiatives.

  • Support the execution of BD Excellence and integrate the BD Excellence methodologies in the digital solutions.

  • Develop a digital training program to upskill plant associates.

  • Manage change effectively to ensure smooth transitions to new technologies.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the supply chain.

Compliance, Risk and Safety :

  • Ensure all new technologies and processes comply with relevant industry regulations and safety standards.

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with digital transformation projects.

Vendor & Budget Management :

  • Manage multiple Vendors

  • Manage budgets for digital transformation projects.

Global Process Ownership:

  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are streamlined, efficient, and aligned with the overall business objectives by:

  • Developing and implementing standardized, end-to-end business processes globally to meet performance targets.

  • Driving the standardization of processes and transformation initiatives to optimize business operations, including opportunities to leverage lower cost outsourced managed services.

  • Provide a single point of accountability for the effectiveness and efficiency of the Make processes across the organization

  • Identifying key issues within processes and strategizing improvements to enhance performance and efficiency.

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Educational Background : BS or master’s in engineering or a related field; graduate degree strongly recommended.

  • Experience : Twenty (20) years of total business experience in areas such as Digital Factory, advanced industrial solutions, manufacturing engineering, and technology transfer. At least ten (10) years of management/supervisory experience.

Skills :

  • Enterprise Software Project Execution : Expert knowledge of enterprise software project execution, crucial for integrated and effective operations.

  • Innovative Environment : Proven success working in an innovative environment and in the development of digital products and services (SaaS, AI, machine learning, IoT, extended reality, 5G networking).

  • Global Industrial Experience : Experience working in a complex global organization with a strong industrial mindset.

  • Data-Driven Strategic Thinking : Provide data-driven strategic thinking and insights to help the business make better-informed decisions.

  • Interpersonal Skills : Strong interpersonal skills, business and financial acumen, decision-making and influencing abilities, organizational skills.

  • Technical Proficiency : Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools, and technical knowledge in SQL, Java, PowerBI, Python, and Aveva Wonderware Digital Backbone.

  • Executive presence and experience: Leadership experience with the presence and credibility to work closely with senior management as well as key external relationships.

  • Must be comfortable with financial and technical analysis , and have exceptional judgment, integrity, leadership and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated capability to thrive in a matrix environment of Functions, BUs, and Regions.

  • Leadership skills and ability to build high performing teams . Must have a track record of recruiting, developing and retaining top talent.
