Responsibilities Set up and take down traffic cones, barricades, and warning signs Use hand signals to direct traffic Monitor traffic flow and adjust traffic control devices Inform drivers about detours Communicate with other flaggers and construction workers Maintain records of drivers who violate construction signs Provide traffic violation reports to their supervisor Remove debris, rubble, and other hazardous materials Alert construction crew about safety standards Skills and qualifications Good observation skills Effective communication skills Organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions Ability to read and comprehend work orders and plans Willingness to work in all weather conditions Work environment Flaggers typically work for a government agency or construction company. They often work in conjunction with other flaggers, with each standing at opposite ends of the construction area.
