Electricians

An electrician may work with various electrical applications, install components, test conductivity and ensure the safe operation of a building's systems. Industrial electricians will work primarily in industrial settings like factories and manufacturing plants to install and maintain power systems for equipment and machines.

Several more common trade skills and tasks electricians perform on the job include:

• Diagnosing electrical issues by reading diagrams and blueprints.
• Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
• Installing, pulling and repairing wiring and conductive elements and electrical components in buildings and other structures.
• Testing and inspecting electrical work like wiring and lighting to ensure safe installation and compliance with regulatory codes.
• Planning and designing layouts of fixtures, wiring pathways and other electrical elements inside commercial buildings and offices.
• Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
• Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
• Identifying and mitigating safety hazards, code violations and other electrical issues.

Other requirements for this role include:

• A high school diploma or GED
• Journeyman or Master License
• At least four years of work experience
• A valid driver's license
