Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our team. This role involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the venipuncture process to patients in a clear and courteous manner. You will also be required to demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles, understand all physicians' orders, match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, and properly handle, package, and store specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

  • Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

  • Float to various client sites and perform blood draws on all patients.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification in IL.

  • Minimum of 1 year work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

  • Strong newborn/pediatric to geriatric draw experience.

  • Reliable means of transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (nice to have).

  • Oncology experience.

  • Experience with hard-sticks.

Work Environment

Must be able to travel to all locations in the territory, including Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove, Park City, Schaumburg, Addison, Chicago, Downers Grove, Elmwood Park, Willowbrook, Hinsdale, Western Springs, Bloomingdale, Skokie, Elgin, Aurora, and Lagrange.

The hours for this role are Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm, with shifts falling between these hours. Rotating Saturdays (every other) from 8am-12:30pm. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
