Hess Corporation Commercial Contracts Specialist Job in Houston, Texas
HYBRID ELIGIBILITY
This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Houston, TX. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.
POSITION SUMMARY
Hess’s Global Exploration & New Ventures Commercial division focuses on preserving enterprise value through strategic and commercial value analysis, negotiation and management of commercial agreements, and engagement with governments, regulators, joint venture partners, and other energy industry stakeholders. This division is part of the Global Exploration organization.
The Commercial Specialist (Global Exploration & New Ventures) will report to the Commercial Director, Global Exploration & New Ventures. This role involves analyzing and managing all upstream and midstream commercial contracts within Global Exploration & New Ventures. The ideal candidate should have experience in commercial contract administration, familiarity with Hess contract management systems and procedures, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement and analyze all existing Hess commercial contracts to ensure compliance with Hess Commercial Excellence Contract Administration Procedures.
Establish and maintain a formal commercial contract obligation register (leases, contracts, AMIs, rental payments) with internal monthly/quarterly reporting procedures.
Set up new domestic and global lease, license, and contract terms and make appropriate revisions in Quorum Land System and CLM.
Manage requisite internal reporting processes (e.g., annual reserve audits, SEC 10-K filings).
Collaborate with Hess asset, finance, accounting, treasury, insurance, and legal teams.
Opportunities to expand future scope with negotiation support and competitor analysis, both in the U.S. and internationally.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree preferable or commensurate experience.
Certifications or degrees in the following are a plus: Law, Petroleum Land Management, Lease and Title Analyst, Division Order Analyst.
Experience
5+ years in upstream oil & gas value chain experience, preferably in commercial, land, land administration, division order, or land development.
Experience with oil & gas contract management systems is required.
Technical Skills
Understanding of leases, production sharing agreements, joint operating agreements, and other commercial contracts in the oil & gas sector.
Familiarity with Hess contract lifecycle management (CLM) and quality lifecycle systems (QLS) is a significant advantage.
Analytical Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an aptitude for making data-driven decisions and providing actionable insights.
Communication Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
Ability to engage internal Hess stakeholders.

- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
