Weatherford Night Shift Lead Mechanical Technician (R&D) in Houston, Texas
Night Shift Lead
Shifts are scheduled between 5pm – 5am. Weekends and holidays are worked depending on testing needs.
Lead night shift team by working individually and as a team to setup, assemble, and run test programs for various oilfield completion tools to meet test qualifications outlined by industry standard or engineering team. Provide support for testing and day shift operations by maintaining testing equipment through scheduled maintenance and keeping lab and test areas clean.
Know and understand Weatherford's enterprise excellence program and the quality policy and comply with all requirements of the quality systems manual, operating and technical procedures, and workplace instructions.
Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.
Communicate and distribute nightly tasks for testing, maintenance, and general lab support to maximize team utilization.
Relay shift activities to lab leadership, highlighting success as well as any issues/concerns or challenges within the night shift team.
Operate test equipment (Pressure Units, Hydraulic Pumps, Manual and Pneumatic Valves, Forced-Air High-Temp Heater Systems, Centrifugal Pump Flow Systems, etc.) to complete testing as per the test procedure.
Gathering test parts, equipment, and set up tests using overhead hoist and/or forklifts.
Perform and maintain inventory of test parts and equipment.
Conclude test setups and store equipment properly.
Carry out work assignments to the highest quality level.
Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by lab leadership within the physical constraints of the job.
Train/mentor less experienced employees.
Experience and Education
Required:
4+ years of experience in Oilfield or Lab environments.
2+ years in leadership role.
Pressure testing experience
Highschool Diploma or equivalent.
Experience operating material handling equipment (Forklift, Overhead Hoist, etc.).
Experience using hand tools (Pipe Wrench, Adjustable Wrench, Screwdriver, Measuring Tape, etc.).
Preferred:
Night shift experience
Experience in HSE documentation, preparing pre-job hazard assessments, performing tool box meetings, presenting safety topics to lab team.
Casing/Test fixture assembly experience
Experience troubleshooting and repairing test equipment (Hydraulic pumps, pneumatic valves, nitrogen boosters)
Knowledge, Skills, & Ability
Required:
Ability to identify and mitigate hazards associated with general lab test operations.
Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
Be able to effectively communicate with team members and lab supervisors via verbal and written communications.
Ability to train others on subjects proficient in.
Ability to manage high workloads and ensure team tasks and objectives are completed.
Ability to read and comprehend drawings, schematics, and tool layouts.
Preferred:
Knowledge and understanding of risks and hazards associated with testing at high temperatures.
Ability to drive accountability within team as it pertains to company policy, HSE standards, and overall quality of work.
