Texas State Job Bank Temporary Network Installation Technician in Houston, Texas
The I.T. Department is seeking experienced Network Installation Technicians for a short-term project implementing network infrastructure upgrades at a business location in Houston. The ideal candidate will work as part of a team to install, configure, and test enterprise-grade networking equipment during overnight hours to minimize business disruption.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Install and configure UniFi networking equipment including routers, switches, and Wi-Fi 7 access points
- Assist with dual internet connection setup (Comcast and Starlink)
- Mount and secure network hardware in appropriate locations
- Configure network segmentation for staff and guest networks
- Test network connectivity and performance
- Document work performed and equipment installed
- Work efficiently within tight overnight timeframes to ensure project completion
- Follow safety protocols, especially when working at heights
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience installing and configuring networking equipment
- Specific experience with UniFi equipment preferred
- Knowledge of network topologies and best practices
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve installation issues
- Comfort working at heights and in various environments
- Ability to work overnight shifts (10PM-6AM)
- Reliable transportation to project site
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on ladders and lifts
- Manual dexterity for equipment installation and cable management
- Ability to stand, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods
