General Purpose

**Please note that this job posting is for experienced police officers. Requirements have been slightly revised. The job

posting for entry-level officers is called Police Officer 2025.**

The Idaho Falls Police Department is accepting applications and resumes for lateral entry of experienced Police Officers

into the department.

The testing process will be as follows:

1. Your application and resume are reviewed to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications established by the State of

Idaho and Idaho Falls Police Department

2. If you meet the requirements established by the Police Department, you will be invited to participate in an oral board

interview and physical fitness test.

3. If you pass those, you will be moved through to the background process which includes a detailed background

investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination and physical examination.

Idaho Falls Police Department will use the following criteria when selecting lateral applicants to participate in the

lateral testing process:

Must be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien who is legally authorized to work in the United States

High School graduation or possession of a GED or equivalent Not less than 21 years of age at the time of appointment Must possess or obtain a valid Idaho Driver\'s License by date of appointment.

Idaho Lateral Applicants

Served within any police/law enforcement agency within the State Cumulative related service in Idaho must include a minimum of two (2) years of uniformed patrol as a commissioned law enforcement officer (POST Certified). And, validated evidence of successful completion of a related training academy certified by the appropriate state, federal or local regulatory or oversight agency.

Outside Lateral Applicants

Service in a city or metropolitan as defined below:

Service in a city of at least 30,000 population as defined by the U.S. office of Management and Budget; OR Service in a city that is part of a Metropolitan Area with at least 60,000 population as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget; AND

Cumulative related service must include a minimum of two (2) years of uniform patrol duty as a commissioned law enforcement officer (POST Certified or equivalent) And, validated evidence of successful completion of a related training academy certified by the appropriate state, federal or local regulatory or oversight agency.

Military Police, Detention/Correction Officer, Reserve Officer, University/Campus Police, Park Ranger/Park Police, Capital Police, Detention/Jail/Court Security Sheriff\'s Deputy or Marshall, Special District Police, Railroad Police and federal law enforcement personnel will NOT be considered as previous related experience.

Essential Functions

This position performs some or all of the following:

Patrol & Traffic: Enforces all applicable city, state, laws and ordinances by apprehending, citing and arresting violators as

appropriate; investigates criminal activity, gathers evidence, interviews victims, witnesses and suspects and takes

appropriate action to solve case and to bring suspects before proper judicial process; investigates traffic accidents,

enforces traffic and parking violations; directs traffic and assists motorists as needed; serves warrants, processes, no ices,

summons and subpoenas and keeps records of disposition.

Responds to calls for service and renders aid to distressed citizens by maintaining the peace, supplying information, and

aiding in assisting the citizens as applicable.

Completes detailed and accurate reports of daily activities, criminal cases, arrests, traffic accidents and other cases as

appropriate; presents evidence and testimony in court and other hearings as required.

Operates police vehicle and other department equipment in a manner that will maximize its life span and will provide the

utmost safety for the officer and the public; maintains visible presence to deter and prevent crime; checks for building

security and illegal activity.

Performs ongoing public relations to enhance the image of the department within the community; as assigned, represents

the department by speaking at public meetings and schools to educate an
