ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In a large financial institution like U.S. Bank, the ability to execute complex projects is paramount. This role demands a strategic mindset to navigate the intricacies of financial regulations and industry standards. The head must demonstrate proven success in managing cross-functional teams and delivering projects efficiently, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints. It requires strong communication skills and the ability to foster a culture of change adoption and continuous improvement within our developer communities. The role involves directly leading a team of Principal Engineers, Architects, Product Management and Software Engineers, impacting the work of over 11,000 Developers.
Strategy, Execution and adoption:
Provide a holistic view and lead the execution of GenAI initiatives across various stages of the SDLC, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Develop and implement GenAI solutions for our developer community, focus on upskilling our teams and accelerating adoption of the technology
Stay updated with the latest advancements in GenAI and evaluate their potential impact on the SDLC
Team Leadership:
Lead a team of technology, product specialists and software engineers focused on GenAI initiatives and developer productivity.
Provide mentorship and guidance to team members and promote a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
Ability to lead and assert Influence outside of direct team, ability to work effectively in a matrix organization
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with development teams, product owners, AI ML Center of Excellence and risk partners to understand their needs and align GenAI solutions with business objectives.
Communicate the benefits and progress of GenAI initiatives to senior management and other key stakeholders
Metrics:
Define key performance indicators to measure the success of GenAI initiatives.
Continuously monitor and analyze the performance of GenAI solutions, making data-driven decisions to optimize their impac
Security Compliance & Guardrails:
Identify potential risks and challenges associated with the integration of GenAI into the SDLC.
Ensure that all GenAI initiatives comply with regulatory requirements, standards, and ethical guidelines and implement mitigation strategies to address risks.
Promote responsible AI practices and address any ethical concerns related to the use of GenAI in the SDLC
Budget and Resource Management:
Utilize strong project management skills to plan, execute, and monitor AI initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgets
Manage the budget and resources allocated for GenAI initiatives, ensuring efficient utilization and cost-effectiveness.
Identify and secure additional resources as needed to support the successful execution of GenAI projects.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
12 or more years of relevant software engineering experience
Eight or more years of experience leading multiple software engineering teams
Qualifications
Strong experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning and software development, with a focus on strategy and execution.
Strong understanding of Generative AI technologies and their applications in software development.
Proven success in leading and managing cross-functional teams toward successful delivery and change adoption
Strong management skills, including planning, execution, and communication
Hands-on development is not required however a dev background is key including proficiency in common programming languages such as Java, Python, and JavaScript.
Experience with AI/ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenAI).
Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques and their implementation.
Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS) for efficient similarity search and retrieval
Expertise in prompt engineering for optimizing interactions with Large Language Models (LLMs)
In-depth knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
Proven experience and success at delivering technical solutions at scale in large, regulated and matrixed corporations.
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $193,035.00 - $227,100.00 - $249,810.00
