Description

Our client, a prominent construction company located in San Diego, CA is seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to join their team. This is your chance to bring your accounting expertise to a growing organization in an exciting and dynamic industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee general ledger accounting, reconcile bank accounts, and maintain accurate and timely financial records.

  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments are completed accurately and on time.

  • Perform project-based financial analysis, track construction project costs, manage work-in-progress schedules, and ensure accurate allocation of expenses to projects.

  • Ensure compliant accounting for percentage-of-completion projects (knowledge of ASC 606 preferred).

  • Monitor AR/AP processes and reconcile accounts to maintain cash flow accuracy.

  • Collaborate with management to prepare budgets, monitor performance, and perform variance analysis.

  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring audit readiness.

  • Provide guidance to junior accounting staff and contribute to improving financial processes and internal controls.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is a preferred asset.

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in the construction industry.

  • Familiarity with construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, and retainage.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, or QuickBooks).

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling.

  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication abilities; team-oriented yet independent thinker.

  • Familiarity with compliance requirements, including for contract insurance, lien laws, and certified payroll (as applicable to the construction industry).
