Total Civil Construction & Engineering, LLC Heavy Equipment Operator in Lanham, Maryland
PLEASE NOTE: TCCE hires field construction staff to work at jobs in the region (primarily Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia). This means job locations will change as needed.
Job Summary
The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment used in construction activities. Equipment operated may include – but is not limited to – dozers, cranes, excavators, loaders, rubber-tire equipment, etc. NOTE: Must have a flexible schedule (make work irregular or odd hours in outdoor work sites, depending upon project needs or weather), including nights and weekends.
Duties & Responsibilities
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment; verifies equipment is in safe working order, is properly fueled, and is capable for performing the assigned task (weight capacity, etc.)
May perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance (filling fluids, adding lubricants, etc.)
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate job site and company safety and security standards to prevent property damage and injuries. Follows laws and prevents traffic disruption.
Operates large size excavator, dozer, track and rubber tire loaders, rollers, and other related equipment to perform road work, earth moving, excavation, etc.
Works with and assists crew in digging ditches and trenches, (un)loading materials, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work.
Provides support to successful completion of construction and engineering work (road work, excavation work, materials movement, etc.)
Responds to signals and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them. May be involved in rigging processes.
Operates the equipment manually, and/or through electronic or other technical means. NOTE: Some equipment may require use of a GPS or other computer software; operators may be required to utilize equipment and software to perform essential job functions.
Maintains equipment or production records, as directed.
Perform other duties, as and when assigned.
Qualifications
Must have physical ability to recognize and avoid security risks.
Possess physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment, plus be willing and able to get on/off equipment to help labor and pipe crews.
Able to communicate effectively with others and work cooperatively in teams (including resolving basic conflicts with or without the assistance of management).
Able to communicate and interact both verbally and written.
Able to perform detailed work and make effective decisions to maintain production, quality and safety under pressure and deadlines.
Handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress.
Able to solve problems.
Able to work with minimum supervision.
Flexible to work during odd hours, including overtime, night work and weekends.
Possess an active driver's license to work on the equipment (a DOT medical card or CDL may be required for certain types of equipment).
Satisfactory driving record (as required by types of equipment operated).
5 years of prior experience operating heavy equipment. NOTE: Requires testing by supervision.
