Responsibilities
As a DCS Engineer within the Engineering Services Department, you will play a critical role in providing engineering, platform, and process control support to our plant operations, maintenance, and project teams. Your focus will be on the management and optimization of our Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) at our Longview, Texas site, while also offering support to other locations as needed.
Responsibilities:
DCS Engineering and Support
Deliver expert DCS engineering support in a chemical manufacturing environment
Conduct DCS configuration and checkout activities to facilitate capital project execution
Provide detailed DCS equipment specifications to support procurement and construction activities related to ongoing projects
Offer on-call DCS support for plant maintenance and operations, ensuring timely resolutions to issues that arise
Execute all responsibilities with a strong emphasis on safety in both work practices and design considerations
Control Strategies and Process Optimization
Implement advanced control strategies aimed at optimizing process stability and output, including conducting loop analysis and tuning, developing feedforward control systems, automating startup and shutdown sequences, compensating for dead time and managing alarms
Coordinate software and hardware upgrades for production plants
Prioritize work assignments based on safety, environmental considerations, regulatory compliance and economic impact to Eastman
Industrial Communication Systems
Design and support industrial communication systems, focusing on networking and system interconnectivity, with a primary emphasis on Modbus, alongside other communication protocols
Evaluate and test new products through Beta Testing, collaborating closely with vendors to ensure quality and performance
Training, Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for engineers, technicians and operators to enhance operational competence
Collaborate with DCS team members on continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on enhancing DCS standards and processes
Stay updated on emerging control technologies and industry best practices by attending user symposiums, engaging with vendors, participating in training sessions and reviewing relevant literature
Foster teamwork and prioritize customer satisfaction in all interactions
Support the Management of Change process
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering required
Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) required
What will make you stand out:
Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD) and/or Structured Text
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols
Experience in HMI development
Experience with Emerson’s DeltaV system
PLC experience, preferably with Rockwell and/or Siemens systems
SIS experience
