Health paras are partnered with the school nurse to help ensure a healthy school environment, providing quality health care to students and staff, and assisting with minor emergencies as they occur.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates willingness and competence in providing specialized caretaking tasks or procedures as delegable per the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
- Assists the RN in meeting the health needs of students.
- Assists in contacting and communicating with parents and staff in order to keep everyone informed on the status of the student.
- Assists the RN with health screenings and documentation to comply with district, state, and/or federal mandates.
- Communicates with the RN concerning staff/student health concerns.
- Accurately documents all student/parent/staff interactions in the health record.
- Attention to detail regarding health files maintained in a tidy, efficient, confidential manner.
- Monitors students as they enter/exit the nurses office for the purpose of keeping accurate accounts of students.
- Manages the health office in regard to supplies, cleanliness, posters etc.
- Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state, and federal laws.
- Understands the schools plans for disaster preparedness.
- Uses Universal Precautions.
- Supervises students during non-instructional time on a need-be basis in order to assure all students are properly supervised.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the health office/school.

Successful Candidates
- Pass a background check
- Have a current TB test
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- First aid certification; CNA recommended
- Are strong team players
- Possess basic computer and math skills
- Must enjoy a fast pace environment
- Can spend 50% of their day sitting and 50% lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and using finger dexterity
- Maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality
