The candidate will assist the Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral Associates, or students in the lab by performing procedures and experiments, such as slicing brain tissue, stereotaxic surgeries, in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology experiments, and immunocytochemistry and similar techniques. They will also help ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and maintenance of laboratory supplies. Weekend work may be required. The following examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks. 50% - Animal stereotaxic surgeries and in vivo experiments. Sucess in this area will require an ability to work with ones hands, follow protocols, careful execution of procedures, and iterative improvement in techniques. 30% - Tissue processing, including tissue harvest, tissue sectioning, mounting, and immunocytochemistry, and ex vivo electrophysiology. Training will be provided, and ultimate success will require attention to detail, ability to do fine hand work, and ability to communicate with others. 20% - Additional support, including tasks such as assisting with mouse colony management, including pairing, tail collection, weaning, euthanasia; laboratory upkeep and maintaining laboratory supplies, including making solutions, and ordering of supplies. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or other biology field, or a combination of related education and relevant work experience to total 4 years. Previous lab experience, including - Rodent handling - IP injections in rodents - Stereotaxic injections in rodents - Rodent behavioral testing (e.g. novel object recognition testing) - Perfusion fixation of rodents - Electrode implantation in rodents - Epilepsy induction in rodents - Use of treadmills with rodents - Confocal microscopy - Immunohistochemistry Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellent communication skills; proven demonstrated good time management, written/verbal communication, multi tasking, and interpersonal skills; ability to work as an effective member of a team, proven attention to detail.
