**Our client, a large financial services firm, is currently hiring for a back-office operations officer to join their team in Montreal, QC! This role is open to new university graduates who studied Business, Commerce, Finance, or economics.

Our client is an asset servicing banking group dedicated to asset managers, insurance companies, pension funds, banks, private equity and real estate funds, brokers, and corporate clients. Our Canadian Teams handle processes delegated by our European entities on a Follow the Sun model.

The settlements team falls under the Custodial Services group, and is responsible for processing settlements. This team has different shifts to handle pending settlements, email management, and repairing trade instructions. Knowledge of SWIFT messages related to settlement and corporate actions is important for the custody services teams.At a high level: The settlements team is a back office operations team, which means 70-80% of this role repeatable/process/task-driven work. 20-30% of the work is more analysis driven. It's important to note that job duties are subject to shift and there could be cross training opportunities available.

Responsibilities of this role can include but are not limited to:

Securities Settlement

• Monitor and whenever necessary repair or release instructions transiting through our dedicated settlement tool at Custodian level (Globe)

• Investigate non matching and failing trade instructions and take the appropriate actions to ensure settlement of transactions

• Liaise with the various parties involved (broker, local custodian, client, etc.) to solve any settlement issue

• Initiate account to account securities transfer requests whenever a transfer is required

The corporate actions team falls under the Custodial Services group, and is responsible for processing corporate actions. The corporate actions team validates the details collected from swift messages and publishes the information to shareholders. Knowledge of SWIFT messages related to settlement and corporate actions is important for the custody services teams.

Responsibilities for this role could include but are not limited to:

Corporate Actions

• Creation and monitoring of events in the data repository upon receipt of notifications

• Notify clients and collect elections (elective events)

• Transmission of Client’s elections to the market

Qualifications

1) 6+ months of financial services experience within a back-office setting, completing trade settlements (back office / trade management)

2) Securities knowledge (Could be from CSC and/or banking industry experience)

3) Excel (Pivot tables, Chart manipulation, Basic Formulas)

4) Attention to detail

Employee Value Proposition: This role is a 6 month “contract-to-hire”. Meaning, the role begins as a 6-month contract, which is alike to a probationary period, with the intent of converting the contractor to a permanent employee at the end of the 6 months. Conversion into a permanent employee is subject to the contractor’s performance during the 6-month period. Work Environment

This role is onsite in downtown Montreal

Working hours: Between 8 am and 8 pm, in rotating shifts that are:

8am to 4pm

9am to 5pm

10am to 6pm

12pm to 8 pm

Candidates must be willing to travel to Europe for training, which will be paid for by the company. This is not for sure, we just need individuals to be open to it

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
