Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the SCIT Education Director and the Early Childhood Manager, responsible for the overall coordination and completion of activities to meet the goals of the Office of Indian Education Native American Language Program Grant (NAL@ED.)Work with the ALRD staff to create Anishinaabemowin outreach and learning opportunities for students, staff, and community members to promote language acquisition. All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws. This is a grant-funded position.
The original spoken language of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian community is in a critical state of loss. If action is not taken immediately, the language that was spoken for hundreds of years will be lost forever.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and organize professional development for Sasiwaans staff, including fluent speaker visits to provide professional development in Anishinaabemowin.
Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of an annual language workshop for staff and community members.
Fiscal management of grant funds.
Ensure timely collection, completion, and submission of all data inclusive of quarterly progress reports.
Manage project-reporting requirements, which includes reviewing and evaluating annual program goals and submitting bi-annual performance reports to the Office of Indian Education.
Plan bi-monthly Cultural crafting nights for Sasiwaans families.
Assisting parents/guardians with the registration and set-up of language-learning app.
Planning of bi-weekly Blue House meals with Sasiwaans families and community members for an immersion-style cooking experience to learn Anishinaabemowin associated with food and cooking.
Assist Outreach Specialist in the development and coordination of language community outreach and education.
