Job Title: Civil Engineer

Job Description

Utilize AutoCAD/Civil 3D to create solid waste engineering design and permitting plans for landfills, transfer stations, and recycling facilities. Create comprehensive engineering plans, including grading, landfill gas collection systems, landfill cell construction, infrastructure construction, storm water management, earthwork, and erosion control. Conduct occasional site visits and prepare CQA reports. Provide technical oversight to junior engineers and work on a variety of projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize AutoCAD/Civil 3D for engineering design and permitting plans.

  • Create full set engineering plans including grading, landfill gas collection systems, landfill cell construction, infrastructure construction, storm water management, earthwork, and erosion control.

  • Conduct site visits and prepare CQA reports.

  • Provide technical oversight to junior engineers.

  • Manage multiple projects from inception to completion.

Essential Skills

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.

  • 2-3 years of solid waste/landfill engineering experience preferred.

  • 2-3 years of civil engineering industry experience required.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, must be able to create site plan drawings.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to conduct site visits and experience with CQA.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required (company will cover maintenance fees).

  • Experience in environmental compliance and remediation.

  • Knowledge of water main systems.

  • Project management skills.

Work Environment

This position is open due to the team's growing project wins in Illinois. The company is based in Michigan with about 50 employees and is expanding its office in Naperville, IL. The role requires being in the office all five days a week for the first 3-6 months, with standard hours from 8-5. Flexibility is offered after this period. The position includes traveling to sites in the Greater Chicagoland area and possibly to Minnesota, with occasional overnight stays. Mileage reimbursement and per diem for overnight travel are provided. Training will be under a more tenured PM and a VP, offering the opportunity to accrue hours toward PE certification and grow into a PM role. The company conducts annual salary reviews and bonuses based on performance.
