Culture Fresh Foods Inc Maintenance Technician (Maintenance Tech) in Naugatuck, Connecticut

Company Background:

Culture Fresh Foods, Incis a Non-Dairy processing facility headquartered in Naugatuck, CT. The facility produces a wide range of plant based spoonable and spreadable cultured and ESL (extended shelf life) products for private label, copack and under its own brand.

The Maintenance Technician works with the production and maintenance teams to increase production by supporting all maintenance and service needs. Increase strength and depth of knowledge in the Maintenance department. Assist Maintenance and Projects Manager with all new production and facility improvements and installations. Work along with maintenance staff to accommodate a 24 hour on call system. Maintain and implement scheduling of all shut down services to be completed. Responsible of Daily floor operations and repairs. Participates in special projects, such as equipment rebuilds/refurbishments. The position is managed and directly reports to the Maintenance and Projects Manager of the Company.

Leadership Duties and Responsibilities of this position:

  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs and schedules for all equipment, systems and CFF facility. Utilizing vendor recommendations, appropriate manuals, engineering specifications and historical data.
  • PLC, such as Allen Bradley but not limited too. Ability of troubleshooting and programming theory of operation desired.
  • Support service of equipment by outside vendors.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by enforcing compliance with all applicable procedures, GMP, OSHA and CFF rules and regulations.
  • Increase facility and production efficiency by participating in a regimented PM schedule reducing operating cost. While improving quality and safety.
  • Minimizing downtown by informing production operators of routine preventive maintenance techniques, proper settings, and operating procedures of equipment systems.
  • Ability to perform Sanitary Welding processes and improve training of personnel in this area, desired.
  • Coordinate with production all service work on production and process equipment.
  • Assure successful audits in the maintenance area.
  • Repairing equipment and systems utilizing appropriate manuals, manufacturer instructions and safety procedures.
  • Maintaining of equipment parts and supplies inventories, anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies and placing and expediting orders

Technical Duties:

  • Repair and maintain plant machinery and equipment such as fillers, mixers, conveyors, compressors, and pumps.
  • Repair or replace control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, motor starters, etc. as needed.
  • Maintaining current technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing professional networks.
  • Perform work order repairs, inspections, and adjustments, while implementing LOTO at all times.
  • Able to set up and operate welders, drill press, grinder, hand tools and other metal working equipment
  • Fabrication and modification of new and existing equipment.
  • Check facilities and machines in regular intervals.
  • Implement corrective measures (quality review) with regard to quality improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of food manufacturing equipment.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance work in the respective facilities in agreement with the production planning departments.
  • Cleanliness and Order in the Maintenance shop.

Position Requirements:

  • Good Work Record with previous food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree or Vocational Technical Certificate training in at least one or more in Electrical, Mechanical, Machining or Welding desired.
  • Basic Electrical Knowledge a must.
  • 3 years experience trouble shooting and set-up of Processing and Packaging Equipment in a F od Manufacturing Environment.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Veterans with applicable military maintenance / technical training and 2-3 years experience.
  • Competency in using MS Office.
  • Ability to work with diverse workforce and languages.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions, disciplines, and cultures.
  • Must pass a company pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to commencing work.

Physical Requirements:

  • This role may require exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or lifting 25 to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 100 feet
  • Must have full range of body motion.

Working Environment:

  • While performing in this role the individual is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, is regularly exposed to dusty conditions, is regularly exposed to high noise environments, is regularly exposed to outside weather in all conditions, and may be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
  • The employee will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must obey all safety rules.
