Description

Position Summary: The Line Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operating and maintaining the collection system in accordance with all state and federal regulations and supervises personnel and all activities related to the operation and maintenance of the collection system.

Minimum Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, assign appropriate tasks, as well as train and supervise subordinate employees performing various activities dealing with the collection of wastewater and biosolids. Must possess knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of flow metering principles and practices; pipe and manhole assessment protocols, computerized control systems; and comprehensive knowledge of PVSC collection system and emergency plans. Must have knowledge of various governmental regulations dealing with all aspects of wastewater and biosolids treatment and disposal; be able to comprehend laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the collection of wastewater; be knowledgeable of the tools, materials and equipment as well as the principles and methods used in the collections of wastewater and biosolids; and be knowledgeable of occupational hazards and the safety precautions exercised in the collection and treatment of wastewater and/or biosolids.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position with the ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions. Must have the ability to read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams. Must be capable of working with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment or system failures.

Experience and License Requirements: A valid New Jersey Driver’s License and NJDOT Certified Traffic Control Coordinator Certificate is required for all levels.

Line Operations Supervisor II - Minimum eight (8) years of experience in collection system maintenance and operation with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity. Possession of New Jersey Collection System C3 license is required or must be actively pursuing* a C3. New Jersey Wastewater Treatment S2 license is preferred. *(Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated State license exam at least 2 times per year until the license is obtained.)

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or the Sciences is preferred. Satisfactory completion of both the Basic and Advanced Wastewater Treatment course is required. Completion of the Advanced Wastewater Collections course preferred.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and required to work indoors and outdoors. Must be available for emergencies or job assignments on a 24-hour basis.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others is maintained. To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to: sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard, minor use of tools, manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into Confined Spaces while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
