Element Materials Technology Molecular Scientist (I-III) in North Liberty, Iowa
Overview
Element-Iowa City has an opening for a Molecular Scientist to join our growing team in North Liberty Iowa at a I, II, or III level depending on qualifications and experience. This Molecular Scientist utilizes professional skill and judgment to perform diverse and complex tasks within the laboratory to conduct molecular analysis on bacterial and fungal isolates. The Molecular Scientist proficiently operates specialized equipment to collect, interpret, and complete analysis of data independently or through the guidance from the molecular manager. The Molecular Scientist will be assigned projects that are performed in both independently as well as team environments, while providing general oversight to ensure the efficient operations of the molecular laboratory.
Responsibilities
Performs molecular, microbiology and epidemiology methods and testing (including Illumina sequencing, multiplex PCR, rtPCR, and PFGE) with minimal supervision or per Element Iowa City standard operating protocols and/or procedures
Design experiments in conjunction with Directors/Associate Directors
Serves as the technical expert for interpreting results, specific tasks, processes, and procedures performed in a laboratory. Supply a reliable source of information and leadership to other employees
Investigates and resolves problems concerning testing and procedures
Participates in the design, decision processing and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation
Monitors equipment performance, diagnoses malfunctions and initiates service requests. Communicate effectively and respectfully with vendors or service providers regarding needs and issues of the group
Monitors quality control and implements corrective actions for effectiveness
Promotes and participates in continuing education and professional development
Assists in developing the strategic goals and objectives for the laboratory
Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation training program for the laboratory
Participates in the preparation, review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures. Make informal presentations of these procedures to others in the laboratory
Provides oversight of laboratory organization, inventory, and supply management
Skills / Qualifications
Molecular Scientist I:Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biological science or a related field
Molecular Scientist II: Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biological science or a related field and 3-5 years of experience in the field
Molecular Scientist III: Requires a bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience or a Master's degree or higher educational degree with 3-5 years of experience in the field
