Denali Universal Services (DUS) Cook's Assistant in North Slope, Alaska
Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Cook Assistant supports the Head Cook in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in a professional kitchen setting at the assigned remote camp on the North Slope of Alaska. Responsible for adhering to food safety and sanitation standards and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized kitchen environment. Must have excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
This position will be working a rotational schedule (3 weeks on/3 weeks off or 2/2) and 12-hour shifts in a remote camp on the North Slope. Flights from Anchorage to the job site (and back) will be paid by the company. Covered meals and lodging at the job site. Point of hire: Anchorage, AK.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
One to two years of experience in quantity food production
State of Alaska Food Worker Card
Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
High level of customer service
Maturity of judgment and behavior
Ability to work in a team environment.
Must be able to pass the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen, criminal background investigation, and a post-offer physical/functional capacity evaluation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Servsafe Certification
Certified Professional Food Manager
Culinary training from an accredited culinary institute or management
Prior supervisory experience
Prior remote site experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare and cook meals according to recipes and menus.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Monitor food quality and freshness.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Maintain foods at proper temperature while utilizing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles for the provision of safe and sanitary food.
Assist with ordering and inventory.
Assist the Head Cook in kitchen operations.
May help train new kitchen staff.
Build and maintain good public relations with the clients, residents, and co-workers.
Assume an active role in employee safety programs
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
Willingness to perform other duties as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to live and work in a remote and confined workspace for extended periods of time and exposure to work assignments consisting of twelve-hour days and able to work day or night shifts as required. The majority of the work is performed in a remote setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities. There may be a lack of immediate access to critical medical services as well as urban community services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items. Applicant will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and Functional Capacity Exam.
