Nightforce Optics is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer. As part of the Nightforce R&D team you will have a critical role in the development process of new or existing products. You will be part of a team of Mechanical Design Engineers responsible for the detailed design, development and testing of next generation optics and accessories for Mil-Spec and Commercial applications in the firearms and outdoor industry. This position works under minimal supervision and direction, and will escalate only the most complex concerns.

Essential Duties:

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies including integrated optical-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Perform complex analysis to identify design and process risks as well as develop potential mitigation plans for those potential design risks
  • Create technical reports and documentation for design reviews.
  • Perform as a key contributor in a design and development team environment, supervised by an expert-level engineer or Engineering Manager.
  • Coordinate and review engineering schedules with project team members.
  • Lead/mentor entry level design engineers through development process.
  • Create BOM, cost model and assembly drawings.
  • Work with CAD drafters to create detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure DFM principles are used early in all design projects.
  • Ensure design files and information are kept up to date and are under version control by departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate and promote teamwork and collaboration with team members at all organizational levels to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Prioritize workload effectively and manage a project from start to finish.
  • Optimize modelling techniques utilizing the latest software advancements.
  • Work directly with and guide the Engineering Tech to prototype and verify new designs.
  • Assist/develop inspection processes for new products.
  • Provide technical documents outlining assembly/operating procedures for new products to manufacturing engineers.
  • Serve as technical correspondent to Materials department, ensuring blueprint details are successfully communicated to vendors.
  • Ensure vendors comply with specs and are approved prior to manufacturing according to organizational guidelines.
  • Work with Product Managers to ensure projects fully meet market demand and sales potential.
  • Communicate regularly and formally the project/task status to project teams and managers.
  • Conduct research to test and analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of components and systems.
  • Mentor and lead Design Engineers I and II

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Additional Duties as Assigned
  • Assist Quality Control with disposition of non-conforming parts.
  • Inspect parts using metrology equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis of def ctive parts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical engineering or an equivalent Bachelor\'s degree in engineering
  • 4-6 years of experience in engineering design
  • Extensive proficiency in 3D CAD & Microsoft office packages
  • Demonstrated ability to work and lead projects effectively within a cross functional team environment
  • High degree of mechanical aptitude and proficient math skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • High regard for confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including keeping accurate records.
  • Positive attitude and be highly motivated.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the Shooting Sport/outdoor Industry

Working knowledge of riflescopes.

Experience in test and measurement procedures, including strain gauging and vibration testing.

Experience designing for manufacturing via machining, 3D printing and molding.

Knowledge of optical component mountin
