Position Summary: Johnson County Community College is seeking a full-time faculty member in our Architecture Department. The Architecture program at JCCC is in its twenty-ninth year of providing services to its students and the community. It is unique in its ability to provide a full, one-year transfer curriculum in Architecture into the second-year of major university Schools of Architecture. The faculty in the department teach courses in; Introduction to Architecture, Design Studios in Architecture, Architectural History, and Special Topic courses in Architecture. These courses are the foundation for students preparing for careers in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Design, and Urban Planning and Design.
We seek candidates who are well positioned to shape the future of architectural studies within the greater context of the arts and humanities. This position demands a positive person, with teaching, leadership, and management skills. Candidate must also promote, support, and help coordinate all aspects of the architecture program with our students and university partners. Teaching will be on campus, primarily face-to-face contact in a physical classroom, with potential of online instruction. Candidate must be available for in-person teaching, Monday through Friday. Teaching load is based on an average of fifteen credit hours per semester, with an average of five classes per semester.
The individual selected for this position should understand the community college environment and foster the success in supporting students at all levels of ability and who are from diverse backgrounds. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate competence in mastery of subject matter, professional development, teaching performance, evaluation of student learning, participation in college/division/program activities, support college policies and procedures, and contribution to the growth and enhancement of the college mission and programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited university, or related discipline.
- Experience with, or capacity for, teaching the history and theory of architecture.
- Potential to develop and teach academic coursework in one or more of the disciplinary content areas including architecture, architecture history, architecture design and architecture specific topics.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills and the ability to use technology effectively in classroom settings, demonstrated by work or educational experience.
- Ability to teach on-campus, in a face-to-face setting, in a physical classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master\'s degree in architecture, or related discipline.
- Professional experience in Architecture, or related field.
- Experience teaching in an academic setting at a college or university.
- NCARB registered Architect, or licensed in a related field.
- A sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse backgrounds and needs of community college students, demonstrated by work history or experience.
