Indian Health Service Physical Therapist in Parker, Arizona

Responsibilities The incumbent will provide advanced clinical therapy services for complex patients or unusual health conditions as well as directing rehabilitation staff and support staff in the operation of the department. This position is located in the Physical Therapy Department at Colorado River Service Unit, Parker Indian Health Center, Parker, Arizona. The position will report to the Supervisory Physician (Deputy Clinical Director). Actively participate in community education and outreach designed to convey the Indian Health Service and Parker Indian Health Center's mission and the physical therapy services available. Provide therapy consultation services to medical staff, consultants, and other medical care personnel. Perform advanced physical therapy tests and measures to determine the objectives, methods and therapeutic techniques based on patient pathology, functional deficits and physical and cognitive impairments. Collaborates with Supervisory Physician (Deputy Clinical Director).regarding equipment/supply inventory, department infection control, safety and hazardous materials. Guides and evaluates the work of a multi-disciplinary team to advance the care of patients in a specialized area of physical therapy. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Education: A graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; AND Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT).In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience in planning and providing the full range of physical therapy treatment and procedures. Experience in performing comprehensive assessment for patients who are acutely ill or have a combination of severe physical disabilities with secondary complications; consulting with patients and health professionals to assess physical capabilities and motivate participation in therapeutic activities; conducting ongoing evaluations of therapy to assess patient progress and maintaining patient progress notes; participating in providing consultation services on patient management and discharge. OR Completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-11 grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience in providing services in all settings, including outpatient, inpatient, and consultation to emergency; provides advanced clinical therapy services for complex patients or unusual health conditions; performs and interprets specialized evaluative procedures/tests and develops appropriate specialized treatment plans; directs physical therapy assistants/support staff in department operations, ensuring clinical proficiency through implementation of performance improvement and quality control measures. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
