Southland Industries Design Build Project Manager 2 in Pflugerville, Texas

POSITION SUMMARY

Manage preconstruction activities including the design process of design-build and design-assist projects. Develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, particular industry or business division.

What you’ll do:

  1. Independently manage design-build and design-assist projects.Assume primary leadership responsibilities for each assigned project in partnership with the engineer of record.

  2. Develop and maintain relationships with external project teams during preconstruction phase of projects (A/E, GC, Owner, other disciplines).

  3. Initiate and maintain liaison with client personnel and coordinate with other disciplines contractors, architects, and other project team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality projects to facilitate successful constructionactivities within the prescribed time frames.Make presentations when necessary.

  4. Communicate and manage project goals and requirements with business development, engineering, estimating, and construction project management.

  5. Monitor/control design development in coordination with engineering staff. Mentor and provide guidance on complex designs and technical issues.

  6. Manage all financial aspects of contracts (costs, billings and collections) to maintain profitability goals and positive cash flow while simultaneously maintaining a positive relationship with theclient.

  7. Develop and maintain project design schedule and participate in creation of construction schedule.Compare design and construction schedules to identify, communicate, propose resolutions to conflicts between the two.

  8. Respond to Request for Proposal for design services as well as review, approve, and negotiate terms on customer contracts.

  9. Issue Request for Proposals and contracts to Professional Service consultants including architects and other engineering disciplines for subconsultant design services.

  10. Ensure project document controls are in compliance with contractrequirements and Brandtstandards.

  11. Identify, assess, and plan to avoid or counteract risk in all phases of assigned projects.

  12. Supervise/mentor the work of other project managers, assistantproject managers, and engineers on assigned projects

  13. Train assistant project managers in basic project management skills while utilizing them to assist in daily execution of assigned projects.

  14. Ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instruction.

  15. Identify design, process and equipment options that can satisfy client requirements, minimize costs and limit potential operational problems.

  16. Lead developing standards, methods, processes and procedures for the engineering department.

  17. Manage the design QA/QC process to deliver high-quality projects within the prescribed time frames.Provide meaningful feedback on the content on the documents to aid in quality improvement.

  18. Lead on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.

  19. Provide engineering support to business development teams during pursuit of projects.Coordinate engineering resources to develop conceptual designs to support estimating

  20. Coordinate engineering and business development teams to maintain a consistent construction budget throughout the design process.

  21. Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Ability to lead design charettes and guide engineering team to efficient project development

  • Ability to develop scopes of work for project development

  • Develop and structure mentorship groups to effectively share knowledge and develop inexperienced employees

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills to maximize team performance across various departments and job positions.

  • Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employeeperformance

  • Ability to develop design tasks and distribute amongst the design team

  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices,processes, standards, etc., and their impact on projectactivities

  • Detailed understanding of all MEP calculations and designs

  • Detailed understanding of MEP system costs

  • Understanding of building codes and standards

  • Excellent analytical and technical writing skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment while adhering to project deadlines

  • Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office

  • Familiarity with Autodesk Products

  • Detailed understanding of BIM requirements

  • Detailed understanding of Project Life Cycle

What you bring to the table:

  • 4-yr. mechanical engineering or construction science degree (or commensurate levels of technical training and relatedexperience)

  • Extensive experience/knowledge (5-10 years) of construction, design, finance, andmanagement

  • Active Professional Engineering license preferred
