Responsibilities
Assists with didactic, practical, clinical, and on the job training of allied health staff education needs for Lab Support Services for outpatient and inpatient (including but not limited to phlebotomy, central processing, and lab call center) and/or formal Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences phlebotomy education programs within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP). Assists with providing “hands-on” training for lab support services staff and support the internal practice for developing skills in phlebotomy and collections to non-lab allied health staff. Assists with the development and implementation of lectures, training content/documents, SOPs, and competencies using research, collaboration across inpatient and outpatient locations, and best practice information and guidelines. Maintains competency in both inpatient and outpatient lab support services related skills, tasks, responsibilities, workflows and processes. Assists in the completion of and/or provides oversight to personnel training records, competencies, and other documentation. Actively participates and performs phlebotomy, sample collection, central processing, general workflow, call center duties, and other job-related duties as assigned. Performs duties in a professional and ethical manner and employs professional conduct and appearance in the performance of duties. Develops, uses, and trains on proper professional communication skills with staff, patients, and families as well as proper technique and etiquette regarding patient interactions and care for Lab Support Services. Must be fluent in the computer systems, LIS, and other applications. The individual must demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness as well as deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent and three years of experience in lab support services required OR two-year degree in health related sciences with experience in phlebotomy required.
Completion of a phlebotomy accredited program required.
National certification in phlebotomy and/or pertinent laboratory field as required by specific lab specialty from an accredited association such as ASCP required.
Effective oral, written, listening, and coaching skills coupled with didactic and “hands-on” teaching skills are essential. Excellent computer and communications skills required.

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm This position supports our Lab Support Services Unit for Inpatient and Outpatient and the Phlebotomy Technician Program and will require varied hours and going between sites.
Weekend Schedule
