AGRICULTURE WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT
The Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures (https://edcgov.us/Government/Ag/) primary mission is to protect, enhance, and promote the preservation of agriculture and the environment, sustain public health, safety, and the welfare of all citizens. The Department is committed to assisting the residents of El Dorado County through various programs and services including, but not limited to: pesticide registration and regulation, nursery inspections and compliance, organic production, pest detection, weed abatement, crop statistics, wildlife services, land use and consumer information, and more.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Perform a variety of field and office support duties in support of Agricultural and Weights and Measures programs and projects. Assignments tend to be intermittent and/or seasonal, and responsibilities provide experience in Agricultural Biology without requiring State certification.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
Set and record the findings of various insects and other pest traps.
Respond to and investigate inquiries from the public; investigate complaints and prepare an appropriate response.
Survey fields, orchards, gardens and mills to locate pests; inspect range and farmland, roadsides, warehouses, and farm buildings.
Examine plant materials in nurseries for insect pests and plant diseases; place and inspect insect traps as required.
Examine various agricultural products at point of origin or at markets for compliance with standards.
Perform pesticide monitoring inspections for pre-application, application and field worker safety; inspect equipment and storage facilities and review records maintained.
Prepare and conduct appropriate training sessions.

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Experience:
One (1) year of public contact which included explaining services and/or procedures to the public, OR one (1) year of experience ensuring public compliance with various rules and/or regulations.
Equivalent to completion of two years of college which includes at least ten units in agriculture or biological science is desirable.
Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Specified positions may require a Class B license operate a three-axle truck with large-scale weighing equipment.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Agricultural Biology Technician. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
