DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The County of El Dorado (https://edcgov.us/) , Department of Transportation (https://edcgov.us/Government/DOT) is responsible for funding, designing, building, operating, and maintaining the County Road System. El Dorado County's Road System currently consists of approximately 1083 centerline miles of paved roadway, 76 bridges, a multitude of storm drainage systems, and related transportation facilities.
MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS DIVISION
The Maintenance and Operations Division is composed of Road Crews, Fleet Services, Equipment Mechanics, and Traffic Control Crews. This dedicated team manages the repair, maintenance, and replacement of existing County roadway and drainage infrastructure. It is also responsible for the maintenance of all 1083 centerline miles of roadway in the County.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Sr. Engineering Technician has an opportunity to perform complex technical engineering support work both in the field and in the office.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
Develop, propose, and implement solutions to traffic and safety problems, including completion of drawings, and coordination with other government agencies.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and carry out activities, including resolving of citizens complaints and inquiries.
Compile, compose, and produce Engineering and Traffic surveys, including gathering of field data, researching of records, and presentation of recommendations and solutions to concerned parties and investigation of citizen complaints. Has responsibility for traffic records, database, and map information.
Make a variety of complex engineering and mathematical computations.
Prepare and maintain accurate records, correspondence, technical or narrative reports.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a professional with expertise in the field of construction and traffic engineering. They possess a background in traffic studies and drafting. The candidate will have knowledge of traffic policies and procedures such as the MUTCD, field experience related to traffic signs, striping and signals and have strong organizational skills to accurately track transportation data for reporting purposes. Their ability to collaborate with internal staff and external agencies will be essential to ensure the County’s Traffic Operations Unit operates at the highest standard of compliance and safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications:
Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from a regionally accredited college or university. Courses from non-regionally accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Four (4) years of engineering or technical support work at a level equivalent to the County's Engineering Technician.
Equivalent to completion of two years of college, possession of an Associate of Arts/Science degree in a pre-engineering or closely related curriculum, or possession of a valid California certificate as an Engineer-In-Training may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Completion of college-level courses in geometry, algebra, and trigonometry is highly desirable.

Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Must be willing to work overtime and off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Sr. Engineering Technician. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
