Job Description:
Position Summary: Perform electrical controls support needed to provide continuous operation of Heavy Duty Engine (HDE) Machining Operations. Machining lines to include: Blocks, Connecting Rods, Heads, and Liners, and well as Turbo Machining & Assembly Operations. The Controls Engineer strives to maintain the operational readiness of all machining equipment, working cross-functionally with Maintenance Supervisors & Mechanical Engineers, Skilled Trades Leaders, and Operations & Quality Department support team members.
Job Functions:
- Troubleshoot, modify, and support hardware and software for PLC, CNC, HMI, and Robot controls.
- Troubleshoot, modify, and support device level networks.
- Troubleshoot, modify, and support servo and variable frequency drive hardware and software.
- Implement and support machining monitoring systems with emphasis on interfacing to higher level systems.
- Apply controls technology to new and existing processes to provide optimal machining solutions.
- Specify, manage, and assist with control designs for new machining equipment procurement.
- Provide controls technical assistance and support to machining operations.
- Support a collaborative team of Skilled Trades, Supervisors & Process Engineers in the diagnosing & repairs of CNC and Assembly Machining Operations.
Assist Skilled Tradesmen in use of technical drawings & OEM documentation needed to troubleshoot faults, diagnose equipment failure, and facilitate repairs.
Basic Qualifications Required:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field, or in lieu of degree; 8 years functional working experience.
- Proficient in manufacturing equipment hardware and software design practices & standards (i.e. PLC's HMI's, servo systems, robotics, vision systems, etc.)
- Proficient with PC hardware and commercially available software.
- Knowledge of networks & database operations.
- Knowledge of electrical codes & standards.
- Knowledge of safety codes and standards.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Effective oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
Ability to read, interpret, and create drawings of building, facility infrastructure, and testing equipment.
Preferred:
- Proficient with Siemens Step 7 PLC's / TIA Portal, Siemens 840D NC Programming, and Siemens VFD's, servos, and software.
- Proficient with Fanuc robots, Cognex vision control systems, & Trumpf laser systems.
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC's, VFD's, servos, and software.
- Knowledge of fluid systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, coolant, and lubrication).
- Knowledge of metal cutting, press force monitoring, part marking, fastening, washing, and filter manufacturing & machining processes.
- Familiarity with Maximo, SAP, and Outlook.
