Position Details:
The School of Biological Sciences at Washington State University Tri-Cities invites applications for an Assistant Professor - Career Track (Teaching) position in Richland, WA, specializing in biological sciences. This position is a fixed-term, nine-month, three-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will have a teaching-focused role with a workload distribution of 80% teaching and 20% service.
Job Duties:
• Teaching (80%): The candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in the field of Biology, with an emphasis on human anatomy and human physiology lectures and labs. Additional courses may include, but are not limited to, introductory biology and other upper-division biology courses. The candidate will develop and deliver effective instructional content that fosters an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population.
• Service (20%): The candidate will contribute to the WSU Tri-Cities campus community through service activities, including student mentorship, participation in departmental committees, and collaboration with other units within the College of Arts and Sciences.
• Advance WSU Tri Cities efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion among the faculty, staff and students in teaching, and community outreach.
Required Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by the appointment date.
• Demonstrated potential or record of effective teaching in biology, with a commitment to student-centered pedagogy.
• Proven or potential dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment in alignment with WSU's land-grant mission.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both students and colleagues in written and verbal forms
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of innovative teaching approaches that enhance the pedagogy of biology.
• A record of or potential for excellence in teaching diverse student populations.
• At least one year of post-doctoral experience in biology or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to direct undergraduate students in research projects and/or mentor students in career exploration and guidance
