Job Title: Chemical Technician 2Job Description
A chemical technician with 5 to 10 years of experience is responsible for assisting chemists by performing technical, analytical, and operational services essential to the functioning of a Combined Cycle power plant and Combustion Turbine facility.
Responsibilities
Work safely and ensure the safety of coworkers.
Operate and maintain various types of water treatment plant equipment, including pumps and analyzers, ensuring water quality through appropriate testing.
Operate and maintain the Low Volume Wastewater Pond and associated equipment.
Provide chemical protection of steam generating equipment to minimize outages, protect equipment, and prevent loss of efficiency due to corrosion and deposits in the steam/water cycle components.
Ensure effective water management.
Ensure effective condenser and cooling tower operation through effective chlorination processes and routine monitoring.
Monitor and treat plant closed loop cooling systems.
Conduct all required sampling as per the Chemistry program and regulatory requirements.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory and on-line equipment and benchtop instrumentation, performing QA/QC as needed.
Support quality unit start-ups and shutdowns when required.
Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies and inventory.
Assist regulatory compliance personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations; assist with environmental reporting and sampling as needed.
Have a good working knowledge of the plant clearance/LOTO procedure.
Understand and adhere to the plant confined space procedure.
Support plant air-in-leakage efforts.
Inventory lab equipment, reagents, and supplies and order as needed.
Assist with data gathering for monthly chemistry reporting.
Ensure all laboratory areas meet housekeeping standards outlined by the plant.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in Chemistry.
5 to 10 years of experience in a related role.
Experience and competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques.
Must qualify on the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) pre-employment test.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis preferred.
Previous work experience in a water treatment plant preferred.
Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
Familiarity with mechanical parts and repair preferred.
Knowledge and experience in the production of deionized water preferred.
Previous experience in a large water treatment facility preferred, including operating and maintaining filtration, reverse osmosis, and de-ionization systems.
Work Environment
Work is conducted both inside and outside, sometimes in challenging elements such as rain and/or cold. The position includes both bench testing and fieldwork, involving analyzer maintenance, field collection of samples, operation of equipment in water treatment plants, inspection of equipment and vessels, and treatment of chemical systems. The workweek consists of five days in-office at the plant.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
