Jacobs Mid-Level Marine Structural Engineer - Ports & Maritime in San Diego, California

As a Ports & Maritime Structural Engineer in Southern California, you will be a part of a global team of more than 550 maritime experts.
You’ll be involved with design, analysis, and delivery of projects ranging from local waterfront projects or large-scale port developments. We’ll rely on you to provide support to our teams on critical projects while fostering a culture of continuous learning and inclusion as you bring fresh ideas to the table.
We’ll provide you the challenge of working on the design of new and rehabilitation of existing marine facilities. During your time with us, you will lead or assist in the preparation of structural calculations/designs, contract drawings and specifications, field inspections, engineering reports, and construction field reports. You will be given the opportunity to work with clients and subconsultants and give technical presentations as necessary.

Our Ports & Maritime Engineers:
Serve in a lead technical support role on a variety of port/maritime project sizes
Lead successful delivery of high-quality projects within budget and on schedule
Effectively collaborate with others and lead design teams in all aspects of structure analysis and design, from conceptual planning and preliminary design to final design and construction
Identify creative and innovative engineering solutions based on client, project, and site constraints
Provide technical guidance and oversight, and perform quality reviews of work by others
Commit to quality and continuous improvement as individuals as well as part of a team
Complete assigned tasks with a high-level of quality within schedule and budget constraints while collaborating with teams of professionals from multiple disciplines
Lead and support project execution, quality management, and safety plans
Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages
Train, mentor, and direct the work of less-experienced engineers
Identify schedule and cost variances and develop/implement recommendations for corrective action in a timely manner
Demonstrate leadership by organizing and actively participating in technical development and other networking activities both internally and externally
Assist in marketing activities to procure new opportunities, coordinating with client account management leads
Have strong written and oral communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
This position will be based out of any of our Southern CA offices including Irvine, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Riverside, CA, and San Diego, CA, and may include travel to other local offices.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited university or college.
California Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain within one year). If close to obtaining a license or scheduled for the exam, the candidate will be considered.
At least 5 years of progressive experience as a Structural Engineer in the design of marine structures and/or bridges.
Working knowledge of building codes and standards (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC and AASHTO) as it relates to the design of marine structures and bridges.
Experience in preparation of construction drawings and specifications.
Proficiency with structural analysis programs (STAAD Pro) and familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Ability to produce technical memorandums and reports.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.
Ability to travel occasionally for site visits and inspections.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
Experience in designing and rehabilitating marine structures and bridges.
Experience in structural modeling and design of marine structures such as wharf and bulkheads.
Experience in seismic analysis and design of marine structures.
Experience with project quantities and cost estimation.
Experience in working with port authorities..
Ability to produce structure details in AutoCAD / MicroStation and coordinate with senior CAD operators to prepare construction drawings.
Structural field inspection experience.
